in Katie Couric gets Diggy with it on Mathew's comments
Katie Couric and CBS news are doing some really innovative things in social media. Eric Kuhn, their social media consultant, is pointing them in the right direction. Katie is sincere about learning about social media, as she explained last spring while meeting with leading mommy bloggers and me, the Savvy Auntie. Good for her!

Thanks for letting me know, Melanie -- glad to hear that the Digg thing isn't just a stunt.

in How Does Your Blog Relate to Your Business on Chris Brogan
My Blog was launched to precede the launch of my online community. It's a business blog that gives an insider's view to how and why I built my company. This way, everyone's in on it. I knew I would do this, photographing lots of milestones along the way.
My blog is a personal reflection of my SavvyAuntie.com brand at Blog.SavvyAuntie.com

in On Managing A Community on Chris Brogan
Fantastic post! I have forwarded it on to friends.
As for me, I would love to get to a place where I can hire a Community Manager. But I always envisioned her managing the internal SavvyAuntie.com community. In order to stay authentic, I cannot imagine anyone else managing my Twitter account, for example. Like Tony, CEO of Zappos.com, I hope to be able to manage both my company (when it launches) and my authentic community (as it grows).
Fortunately or unfortunately, there is only one Melanie Notkin. But there are millions of Savvy Aunties out there. For them, I need help!

in Does Work/Life Balance Exist for Entrepreneurs? on Social Times
Since I started my own busines (savvyauntie.com), my social life has never been better. I think people connect with my positive energy. So while I thought being an "Auntrepreneur" would dampen my social schedule, it has actually improved it.
Of course, on a start-up's budget, I don't spend time shopping, going to concerts or traveling. I do find time for concentrated times with friends, dating and of course, spending time with my nephew and nieces.
Of course, when you work day begins early AM and ends early AM, you fit the important things in.

in Being Someones Social Media Sherpa on Social Times
I love that idea! A couple of weeks ago, I posted a note in Facebook on "Why I Twitter" after my Facebook Friends were curious about my Status Twittering. It explains some of the top-line benefits of Twittering for the 'layman.' It got passed around a bit, and even ended up on this blog: http://tinyurl.com/3a89vz
My Facebook Friends are starting to "get it" now... and while most are not yet Twittering, they at least understand it a bit better. Some are even trying it!
By the way, since the FB post, I have 140 new Followers on Twitter and have made lasting connections. Including you, Nick!
I invite others to Follow me at Twitter.com/savvyauntie

I like the new Linkedin, but I don't quite get the Company News module. First of all, it's set to a company I have not worked for since 2001. And now that I founded my own company and have yet to make any hires, I don't need a social newsfeed. Moreover, I don't turn to Linkedin for industry news (not to mention the default company does not represent my current industry.)I can't change it, move it or avoid it.
When my industry friends on Facebook post news, it's usually very relevant to me. Or at least worth a good laugh.
