Often they do. On Internet it seems worse just because technology allows us to harvest all those links and show them on one place.

From another perspective, every techblog has its own audience. Shouldn't it post some news just because other were quicker?

Re: Should I get an iPhone or an Android?

I am waiting for Android, since the platform is open and Google is able to innovate quickly.

Re: Is It Just Me, Or Has Steve Pavlina Been Replaced By Someone Else?

Yes, the same feeling here. In my country the tradition says one should ask both parents, so I did. But the act was shorter as proposed in this article - I didn't explain why I want to marry her, just stated my intention directly. ;-)

So, I recommend to follow this custom.

Re: Tired of Beer? About 2-3 months of dating, we started to mention in our conversations that we just should stay together the whole life...afterwards, sometimes my wife would refer to me as "my future husband". After some more months, we went to a local church office and applied for marriage (but I asked for parent's approval before that).

Re: The Gentleman’s Guide To Tipping

I usually give tips, but not always - when I don't feel satisfied with the service, or consider it expensive enough, I don't tip. When I was an "European tourist in USA", I felt very uncomfortable with their system of "mandatory tiping". I consider it completely unnatural. I think tip should be something like a bonus, not a part of the basic wage.

This mandotory tiping system implies that I should be feeling guilty when I don't tip, and I am not personally willing to play that game.

Re: GiraffeSoft | Welcome to smarter web app development.

Ok, I met the first point only, now I have to install Linux to be a great hacker by your definition. ;o)) Or rather not, thank you. ;)

I tend to use debugger less and less, but I wouldn't say that it doesn't help understand code...why not? I spent quite a few hours of my life fiddling with FF extensions, but I realized that I just can go without them.

Two things I am missing so far: F11 - Fullscreen mode (handy at my 10" laptop) and also Chrome doesn't remember when I increase font on some website. They just email or call you, you say yes or no. Very simple.]

But this is not always practical or doable. For example, I am editor of an online news portal, and the pace here is very quick. I get new articles, and my task is to find appropriate photos to illustrate them, and then publish asap. When I don't find a rigth photo in agency photo-archive, I head right away to flickr creativecommons section. I just don't have time to email or call the owner, wait for the answers, etc. I really don't. (Regretfully, neither do I have a budget to pay them...)

So from my perspective, CC is a good thing, but it would be great to fix the grey areas, like whether editorial use is commercial or not.

I hear a lot of critique about CC and most of it comes from pro photogs. But not all photographers are pros, some do it as a hobby and it's their right to release their photos as CC. Nobody is forced you to use CC, so what the heck?

It is like someone would frown on hobby programmers that they are releasing their work as open source and eating the lunch of profesionals.

Re: Creative Commons: A Great Concept, I’ll Never Employ

You can gain at least some exposure. For example, some prominent blogs like zenhabits.net use CC images from flickr as illustrations to their posts, and the credit link leads directly to photographer portfolio - so they may become more known through their work.

Another issue is, that when the photo is fully copyrighted, I as an online publisher would not ask the owner if I can publish it for free - it just doesn't sound right, does it? Moreover, I may even get accused of trying to use other people work to benefit myself. So I am interested only on those photos, whose author clearly states that he wants nothing more than credit for it - and CC license provides just that.

But you are right about the potential legal ramifications - and my opinion is that the solution is in further polishing the CC license and solve the "grey" areas.
