What about a voting/nomination system? Once you have some members set up we all nominate three blogs on the list we find interesting. At the end of the month the nominations are tallied up and the blog with the most gets the spotlight?

Just an idea. It might be a lot to set up and carry out manually. I don't have the PHP knowhow to make an app like that. Maybe somebody in the community does though.

Probably your way is the best to start it out though. Please let me know if I can help.

Well, what you describe sounds a lot like my perfect storm as well. Where we are living right now in and around Manzanillo Mexico is very similar. We have taken a sabbatical from New York life and relocated to our perfect storm to explore the culture and place more in depth, discover the people and their lifestyles, and of course share it with others.

I never plan to stop traveling though, eventually this chapter will come to an end. Like you and soultraveler said there are so many amazing places on Earth that say paradise and I want to find them. All of them.

Awesome pictures. Ireland is so beautiful and so are the people... in their own special way. I've always wanted to travel there, as I'm pretty sure I was meant to be Irish.

*warning personal confession*

When I was younger I actually learned to play the Irish penny whistle because I was in love with the Irish music scene, and I read that they have open sessions in the pubs where everybody comes and plays music. Don't know if that's still true but it was always a dream that one day I could go and jam with the locals.

I still have the penny whistle, but I'm pretty sure my fingers have forgotten how to play. I haven't given up yet though, I still plan to do it one day!

Planning is one of the greatest parts of traveling. I love the anticipation, the research, the learning about a place before I go. I read a book not too long ago called The Art of Travel by Aldous Huxley I think. He went on at some length about the act of planning a trip. The anticipation, envisioning what you will do, who you will meet, what experiences you will have, all add to the excitement of actual travel. Sometimes it's the planning stage that's actually more fun than the traveling stage! (I said it. Some trips honestly can be very disappointing if you don't have the right mindset)

Thanks for the post. It's so true, everything we are doing as bloggers is based around people planning to travel, and yet we so rarely get to talk about it.

@NomadicMatt @Taylor DavidsonWell, you are right, $45 a day isn't too hard to travel. Especially with the exchange rate right now, it's more like $30 a day. I wrote the article with a 10/1 exchange rate in mind. You can rough it for much less, but your average recreational vacationer won't want to bring their own sleep sack and wake up with cockroaches falling on them and crawling under the covers. (been there... done that... *shudder*)

Most people don't believe me when I try to tell them how expensive Mexico is getting though. I live in Manzanillo, Mexico right now, and I still can't believe it. But there are deals to be found.

Traveling into the interior is amazing, and definitely cheaper, there are some pretty awesome sights in this country. Even along the coast, if you stay off the tourist track then you can find much cheaper places.

Anyway, as Christine said, this was a guide to vacationing comfortably in Mexico on a budget. Props to those of you who can do it cheaper!

Great itinerary! Sounds like you guys are going to have a ton of fun! If you drive through Manzanillo (just a couple hours south of PV) be sure to give me a holler, we'll show you some great little places to eat and visit that you won't soon forget!

Would looove to go visit Belize one of these days. Gorgeous ocean. Maybe for our anniversary if I can swing a hotel review or something. :)

Great post! It is so possible to live abroad and work at the same time. Especially if your skills have anything to do with the internet, then you are pretty much free to travel as you like.

There is nothing more frustrating than knowing you could be just as productive, if not more so, at home as you are in the office. I think more corporations are realizing this, but it's a very slow realization. My wife used to get to work from home once in a while, in NYC.

Now I do it for us while living on the beach in Mexico. The best part is that since we live in another country, the cost of living is less than half, so I work about 16 hours a week consulting, and we are totally set! What's not to love?
