in Redesign on Alex Hillman Writes Here
The next redesign is the one I’m really excited about…it will be the first time I’ve ever created a custom design for my blog. I don’t have any ETA on that, but it is coming.

Yeah, I know that feeling. I've got a ton of redesigns to do...

The new design looks great - I agree about the monthlly archives though.

in Zemanta for SEO on Marketing
I just added it to my blog. I'm seeing that 'blog this' logo everywhere. I really like the extra content and recommendations. Great product and glad to see a NY firm supporting it.

EricFriedman Being able to re-blog things in a standard way is also a very cool feature I forgot to mention. Its like adding your own comments to a post and giving someone full context very easily.

in Thoughts On Milan on A VC
The only time I've ever been in MIlan was on a train from Nice to Florence. We changed at Milan. That was before the introduction of the Euro so after changing my Francs I had several million Lira which I spent on lunch.

It was quite good as I remember....

Adam - I don't worry about leaving PR and marketing peeps behind. If they haven't figured this all out already, they won't. I agree with you about the schools (I have two in school and one we homeschool) and about the attention span of the SM community.

Brian - just call me Senator....

in What Tom Could Learn from Facebook on Chris Brogan
funny, I got the exact same email from "Tom" and for a few moments toyed with breaking his "embargo" but I didn't. I do get a ton of these, and yes, PR people are still doing it.

in nextNY News Coverage Blackout... why? on This is going to be BIG!
In my experience in pimping NY and NorthEast based start ups - the mainstream pubs like the WSJ and the Times have reporters covering the 'start up' beat but they are still focused on the Valley and SF. A story about the New York tech scene or a NY tech start up would still get pushed over to the City business desk by the Times.

I'd say 'their loss' but it still doesn't solve the problem of how to get some ink for the NY tech scene.

Maybe it's time to start directly inviting folks from the Times, the News, the Post, the WSJ, NY1, Bloomberg, etc. to Next NY events?

in How do I get people to read my blog? on Marketing Begins At Home
Annie - Good point. I guess I left that unsaid but it's important to know when to digg, tweet or otherwise pump your own content and when to shut up.

You think college students have it tough... Take a look at the disconnect between how elementary schools teach and how elementary school students learn and live.

Yes, I am old and dumb and your grandparents come come over to play checkers anytime.

Tim.. yep.

Paul.. yes I did know that and I would pick your grandparents.

Have you ever heard of Shel Israel? Or Hugh MacLeod? Or Robert Scoble? Or Dave Winer? Any of us are old enough to be your father and we were doing this social media stuff before you were in college. Some of us were sending emails, posting on Usenet or using BBSs when you were learning to write.

Thanks for playing.

Piers - ever forget what the ad was for a few moments after seeing it? Sure people look at ads but I'd bet for most people, that is people NOT in the ad business, they are eye candy.
