In fact, they would apparently rather get taken to the cleaners by MasterCard and Visa."

This is a really absurd statement. The average person on the street (and no, that doesn't include the AAPL-cult members) doesn't even give a second thought to Microsoft, in the "they're evil and Jobs is a God" sense.

If Microsoft develops the right partnerships and creates online templates that make using their points system as easy as 5 million Xbox LIVE subscribers now think it is, then it'll take off -- and Visa, Mastercard and PayPal are in big trouble; as is the iPod franchise.

Gene from ZuneChannel.com

Re: Microsoft still wants to control your wallet

Fair enough, and valid points, Mathew.

Thanks for the reply (which is more than I do on my blog...which I've told everyone is a monologue, not a dialogue). It's always nice to come across bloggers who have a more generous philosophy than I.

Gene

Re: More news on Zune sales and apparently brown isn’t in after all?

Neither San Francisco, nor Amazon.com, should serve as the standard benchmark for Zune sales - but somehow, it seems that those are the only 'standards' used by anyone. So it's not at all going to be a surprise to many of us when, in early January, MSFT reports that "...sales of Zune were particularly strong in the Heartland, at Sears, Costco, and Target. Using either Soho or San Francisco as benchmarks for success is absurd. Microsoft, as I've said on my blog, is going for the other 95% of the population, by clandestinely targeting their message to the hipsters.

Gene from ZuneChannel.com

Re: Why are some bloggers turning on Apple?

Apple has emerged to become a truly great company, with beautifully-designed products (although quality is another issue).

But what annoys the rest of the population, i.e., those who aren't platinum members of the 'give-me-apple-or-give-me-an-incredibly-painful-death' club is the arrogance of Jobs and company -- and their vast networks of journalist friends.

So, for the rest of us, it's very nice to see the tide occasionally turn.

Gene from ZuneChannel.com

Re: Zune: At What Point Do You Throw In The Towel?

"sock puppet"...for Microsoft? Really? Then it's a sure bet that Rafat is a classic AAPL fanboy writing a piece titled "Zune: At What Point Do You Throw In The Towel."

Zune's a great product, which worked flawlessly from day-1. I have 3 iPods, including the new touch - and all of them suck in terms of manufacture and operational quality.
