Congratulations on the new blog! Nice, nice layout!
I enjoyed how you tied in Skittles with Seth Godin's Purple Cow. Too many organizations spend hours in committee meetings wrangling over "does Social Media have any ROI?" Skittles is an example of just getting out there and doing something different to be Remarkable.
A news story hit this past week where church members were encouraged to Twitter: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29588220/ This is another example of thinking outside the box.
Should they/we? YES! Horizons are expanded, and it's good for SEO and link building!

in Why Google & Twitter Need to Ditch “Nofollow” for All Our Sakes! on Marketing Pilgrim
Great post and discussion!
Wish Google had a Community Manager who listened and joined the conversation by monitoring and responding to industry-leading blogs, especially discussions like this.
Their Help pages don't always demonstrate what we see spit out into the SERPs. What @Neyne said is often true: The closest to the truth you can get is by saying “in large number of cases Google will do X”.

So glad I saw you posting of this on Twitter. Pretty cool service that meets a need, and the developer is only 19? wow!
Sounds like Zooity is one more place to get your name and profile setup, one that could be valuable for ORM and getting listed in the SERPs.

Thanks for the post. I have just been deleting the emails. Now I realize that we have more influence by blocking and reporting the spammers!
The spammers are targeting users with high follower numbers. If you fall into that category, suggest you setup an account with your _username_ . You'll have to get a separate email address for this, but that doesn't address the _username or the username_ . But if you do setup your own anti-spam profile, you can put a link to your real Twitter profile in your bio.
Andy, you bring up a good point about the illegality and how this affects Twitter's reputation! It's affecting the community as a whole.

Stumbled thumbs up to the post!
ugh! No need to repeat sentiment. Heck, it would have been better if there were a NOFOLLOW attribute; at least the links would have worked. Having no links in the bio field has resulted in poor usability, no click-through, reduced functionality. Matt Cutts apparently thought it was an oversight by Twitter - too much power!

Jim,
I appreciate your straight-forward approach. I found your blog through Remarkablogger.
So, you are open to questions? Maybe post the types of topics about which you are passionate. That will help readers know the types of questions to ask. Nice start.

in How to Create Business From a Blog on Chris Brogan
Thanks for this post, as many of us are figuring out best practices for making money with a blog. Please keep sharing your tips and your journey.
Your approach to sharing your social media expertise is very educational.
Educating other is really the best way to serve and come alongside clients and business partners. A couple days ago I signed up for Brian Clark's http://teachingsells.com course. He's only taking new members through July 31. As a new student, I don't yet have a testimonial, but his approach and the quality of his writing is superb. So for making money with a blog, Teaching Sells!

in Social Media Does Not Replace Marketing Strategy on Chris Brogan
Key take-away is your pondering "what these tools do for the communities we serve." That's the heart of social media, adding value! Unfortunately, some companies are using it as marketing ploy that lacks genuine involvement. Does one only participate where the yield is highest, where the monetary value is greatest? What if the best relationships and come for the lowest returning sector? Some food for thought...
Robert Middleton presents an approach that is win-win to developing relationships and adding value to customers, either B2B or B2C. When he stated, "It's more involving and rewarding to work with black belts than it is with white belts," this shows the value of educating clients. Both sides of the relationship grow stronger. Value is mutual.
We need to ask ourselves, "are we serving the community or are we exploiting?"

Think about how many people you email that you don't consider "friends" and don't want to see or share information with!
I'm seriously thinking about switching to Zoho Mail now that it's available. Zoho's services are not as easy or integrated, but maybe we don't want integrated.
Wonder how many of us would share what we're doing on Twitter if it was owned by Google?
Thanks for keeping us informed.

in Google Launches Trends for Websites on Marketing Pilgrim
Question I just posed on Twitter:
Do you share data with Google Analytics in settings? If so, with Google only and/or Anonymously?
Google Trends for websites is using this opt-in data. Wondering what the community thinks the best practice is here.
A search for google.com doesn't return any trends. Gosh, they have trends for all the other search engines, even the small ones.

Dittos to preferring Twitter interface and wanting to harpoon the whale. (But I figured some distant Indian relatives already killed their alloted one whale per year.)
I received the same, Plurk crash upon signing up last week. Wondering how useful it would have been at SMX via phone?
A friend just showed me his Plurk widget on a site, that is super cool. He's using it to show a timeline of his daughter's life.
Yet, what is that Plurk logo? The bulls-eye target with the bone sticking through the body of an...elephant? Surely this turns off vegetarians, which I'm not, because I already enjoyed whale meat this year.

in Hire Someone That You Like, That is Not Like You! (Part 1) on Jacob Morgan on Social Media, Technology, Marketing, and Life
Thanks for a thought-provoking article! Tenacity and willingness to learn from life situations and failures is what I admire the most in others.
Having started an Amway business when I was in high school, I learned a lot about diligence. I put Amway's products and the MLM stuff aside but held onto some key principles similar to what you mentioned. Surround yourself with diverse people and skills. Work hard! Most of all, love what you do! I prefer to work with people who have passion!
I often think of Abraham Lincoln who lost 13 elections before becoming President. I like to think of some of my life experiences as "failing forward."
Hubert H. Humphrey said, "Never give in and never give up."
So many people spend their life and further their careers based on ego. It's not about me! It's about others, helping them and learning from them and growing something great together!

in If Facebook or Twitter Charged $30/Month Would You Pay? on Jacob Morgan on Social Media, Technology, Marketing, and Life
Quick and simple: No!
I started participated in Twitter and FaceBook simply to keep abreast of social networking trends to be able to inform and help clients. The networking value has been fun, however. Would I pay $30/month for the fun? No.

in How Many Social Networking Friends Do You Have? on Marketing Pilgrim
Great perspectives. I fairly new to social networking and have about 50 friends each on LinkedIn and FaceBook and just started Tweeting yesterday. I personally know more of my LinkedIn contacts. I value LinkedIn due to the Questions & Answers. I don't accept gifts on FaceBook but like the Groups.
I'm on SN sites for a few reasons - to learn, keep up with the latest in marketing, networking and identifying how social networking can help clients. Interestingly, few of my "real life" friends socialize virtually. They spend their free time cycling.
