Yes, you definitely need to play that game. On a whim to put something on my newly built desktop last semester, I got Orange Box. With the computer still on the table where I put it together, I thought I'd see what the fuss was all about for just half an hour before bed. I ended up playing the entire thing through -_-;;; Plus some of the extras.. But yes, definitely a good game. And sorry, I didn't actually read through the rest of the entry before posting this.

Hey. Didn't you deride me about wanting to have a separate "app" for my webapps not too long ago? I'll admit that just from the things you've pointed Prism seems like a more comprehensive solution, but the basic goal is the same as what I was talking to you about - Hana. Although I've now started to use Fluid (Fluidapp.com). Both are really basic apps that use webkit but they all serve a similar purpose, no? There is another one that I used to use called Mailplane, which is an app specifically for Gmail, which is great if you have multiple Gmail accounts.

Deride was probably the wrong word.

Fluid definitely needs to be fleshed out and polished. I've got it working with Gmail/Gcal/Facebook right now. It's nice that it uses the icons - too bad the resolution looks really crappy in the dock. Prism still sounds like a more full-fledge solution, so I'll have to look at it sometime soon in the future.

As for webapps - I still like having everything available to me offline. At the very least as a backup if not synchronised. That's why I wish something like Google Gears would roll out more. Of course, even better would be ubiquitous, reliable, high-speed internet access.

PS. The font in the comment text box is small and horrible. Is that something on my end or yours?

P.S., I'm going to keep pointing out things I don't like about the blog even though I know you're working on it - at least a (i.e., one) link to comments, I think, should be at the end of an entry, especially when delineation of ends and beginnings of posts aren't particularly clear.

Really? I just got home after seeing the talk online and got/installed the update. They seemed to made some other tweaks to the interface. Genius.. interesting. No more having 20 odd smart playlists to pseudo-program in some intelligence into playlists (see what I did there?). One question though, how come there was no mention of adding Genius functionality in the iPhone OS 2.1 update?

Some of the changes have actually been made to the info screen making it more functional...

of course there's always the chance that I just hadn't noticed the changes from an earlier update.

For number two, my idea has always been that there should be an option to turn on auto-shortening. With this option on, it should recognize when you are pasting a URL and automatically shorten via tinyurl or whatever choice of shortening service is most convenient for the application to automatically submit and retrieve a shortened URL, and insert that into the post.

That way, no second screen, the process of posting is just as streamlined it is currently, and you still get to see how many of the 140 you have left as you're typing the post.

P.S. You can associate images with a post other than by uploading to something like twitpic and including a link? Did not know this... how does it work? I've seen the location based stuff, but this is news to me.

Just so as long as they aren't making you agree to a contract period for the introductory rate. A lot of the advertised introductory rates are only valid if you agree to a one-year period of service.

And yes. Twitter does shine at times like this. Remember when I tweeted about my packets to any Microsoft owned domains dying at CENIC servers that handle Berkeley's internet and got @'ed by @rjhintz? That was fun.

Wondering if you've thought about doing different "editions." I.e., different feeds for the different types of posts you write. You always seem a bit apprehensive about posting the more personal, "useless" stuff on the blog. This way, you can still have everything go on the blog and be a part of joshkim.org, but let people choose between an everything feed and a sans-JKness feed.

If you decide to stick to that posting schedule, you could call it the weekend edition even. =P

huh. That does seem like a problem, that the file is deleted and not a license key that allows use of the file.. Then again, tying it down like FairPlay and most other DRM schemes do just bogs it down - what if you need to restore a book to a new/different Kindle (or some to-be-made device) and can't obtain a license from Amazon - no connectivity or a problem with their servers. (Situation does seem to be a stretch, but the basic idea of DRM being too restrictive and degrading the user-experience is pretty general.)

One could argue for making this deliberate - making DRM as least restrictive as possible. Since it shouldn't be hard to track strange behaviour occurring on any given Kindle, and give this fact, this could just be the trade-off they made.
