in Cuil, the Cool Search Engine… Oops on The Marketing Technology Blog
I was fooling with Cuil this morning as well. I think that they jumped the gun a bit on their announcement. It doesn't seem to be completely up and running and Cuil doesn't know my blog exists. (how insulting!)

I think one of the lessons learned is that your name is pronounced 'cool', you better be working from day one!

Hey, that's my gig! Nice choice, though. Guess I'll have to root around for a good Janis clip.

in Consensus Won’t Get You Success on The Marketing Technology Blog
Interesting post. I think that most people are better off copying a successful model, however, and having a reasonable amount of success with it. In order to have Dylan's kind of success you have to BE that unique, talented and lucky. It's never going to happen for more than a very few.
Of course you never know, maybe it's me. ;)

Hi Clark!
I think folks are 'safer' copying a successful model but I'm not sure that they are better off. Once you have a model, you have to have a compelling reason to offer a second or third or sixth. I wonder if American Idol wouldn't do better by having a country version one year, a rock version another, a hiphop another... I don't think providing the same model each year is going to sustain the business - it's definitely not sustaining record sales.
Thanks for commenting - it's a worthy discussion!

in Turning Talents Into Strengths on Thoughts On Quotes
Great post! The only problem is my greatest talent seems to be for procrastination.

Thanks Clark! I think we all struggle with that. I've quoted Bob Moawad before, and one of my favorites of his is "Smile! Attitude is contagious." Well, in addition to attitude, I think action is contagious. The more we act on things, the easier it gets to keep acting on it. The hardest part is always getting the process started.

in Fired: MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog Widgets on The Marketing Technology Blog
I put the little banners on the bottom of the sidebar of Clark's Picks for the numerous social networking sites that I joined. Predictably, I get traffic from the one's that I actually frequent, mostly Fuelmyblog.
Right now I am experimenting with Entrecard and Spott for the traffic. Do you have any thoughts on those sites?

Decent coffee that you don't have to doctor up with half a ping of dairy products to choke it down would be my Starbucks idea.

in Fired: BlogRush, Fuel My Blog and even Technorati on The Marketing Technology Blog
I am one of those new bloggers that Kevin is trying to help and, in fact, Fuelmyblog has helped me in a couple of ways. It has sent me some traffic, readers who spend an average of a minute and a half on my blog, and it has become the primary platform from which I look for new blogs to read. (and comment on)
I have explored many and joined a few blogging community sites. Certainly no blogger can spend the time to be active on more than two or at most three of them effectively and I can understand that an established blogger, with lots of readers and lots of contacts withing the larger blogging community might not feel the need for any blogging community site anymore. That does not mean that they have no value.
I'm not going to fire my community sites, or Technorati either.

Hi ROTUS,
I respect your opinion - but I'd also challenge you. For a specific period of time, say 2 weeks, participate daily on a blogging community as you normally would.
Then, for the next 2 weeks, participate in both promoting blogs through your own (through direct links to their blog posts in yours) blog and in comments on their posts - adding value added information in several blog's posts. Be sure they are new blogs that you've never been exposed to before.
To find them, simply use Google Blogsearch.
I'm willing to go out on a limb and tell you that the latter will provide you with more growth AND retention of those readers than any third party site.
