I somehow feel that social networking sites based on ideas from US/UK wont work here coz indians think differently. They can achieve popularity but not even close to what MySpace is in the US. In India the parents still decide what their children view to a quite large extent.

Another stupid way to tackle such an issue. Why does everyone feel that the best way to keep children is to ban things for them.

Oh great, another so called YouTube killer. Why do these big companies use such terms before even showing a working product coz if its good, I am sure users dont care whether its YouTube or anything else. Anyways lets wait and watch

Where do these people get the money to do all this. If they have so much spare cash, might as well do something like upload images and contribute for charity

Another way to recieve posts. Already email subscription, RSS and other ways are available. Why do we need more ways.

Pretty insightful comments on this point. Agreed, youtube isnt a small guy anymore and for people asking questions as to why viacom took such a long time is because they were negotiating with youtube/google to strike some sort of deal so that everybody could get access to these clips but unfortunately something somewhere went wrong. I actually might get lambasted for this but I really hope that google loses this case and has to pay atleast some amount of fine. Nobody is bigger than the law.

I think that the Technorati WTF has been disabled as the link leads to a 404.

This was bound to happen. Any company serious about social networking wouldn't ask parents for approvals.

I tried Xtorrent. Its giving me a lot of problems. If i try a lot of searches simultaneously, it just loses connection. I have to close and re-start it again. Did you face a similar problem?

This is brilliant. Myspace is just going to increase its value with this.

Nice theme. However sometimes the archives take a long time to load.

The concept seems nice and new. But as said in the post, it needs some time to pass the test.

in 2006/08/25/parentsconnect-launches-social-network-for-parents/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Social networks of these kind are never really going to take off in a big way like myspace simply because parents do not have too much time like myspace teens. Even if it does, the growth will be steady. Also, myspace has a lot of plugins, flash games and widgets which myspace users can plug into. Since parentsconnect focusses on parents am not too sure whether such other services will ever be viable for them

Yes, this is exactly what I also wanted without going through 4-5 pages to find out stories which interest me.

These new features are sure to make delicious more popular, but what I do not understand is that why delicious wants to become a social network. There are tons of ways to display your delicious bookmarks. Let delicious remain delicious and leave the social stuff to flickr and other sites.

I tried dabble. The service looks promising but why would a user want to first go to dabble, search for a video and then go to that particular site to watch it. But the bookmarking feature sounds cool. I just hope that it continues to add more features.

in 2006/07/22/youtube-is-worlds-fastest-growing-website/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
YouTube by no means is doomed. If there was a problem with copyrighted content on the site, it would have never seen such growth. Their main problem is how to generate cash. Also, big studios such as NBC and Disney cannot pull YouTube down by saying that there is copyrighted content just because the site has brand loyalty which any studio can make use of. Giving away some copyrighted material on the site in exchange for user loyalty doesnt sound a bad deal right.

Nifty tool. But I wonder how such tools can generate some business value for the creator.

Matt- I agree that if family and friends are far away, this service is good. But dont you think that sooner or later users using Pickle would want to not just share it with family and friends because other than the really personal photos, which shouldnt be uploaded in anycase, most are general and related to trips, outings. Once a user starts sharing them with not just family and friends I doubt the usefulness of this service.

Pickle is a nice service but I was wondering why would people want to go through the whole process of signing up, uploading and organizing photos and then sending links to share them. If you only wanted to show it to your friends or relatives, you might as well just use your own computer to show it.
