I work with all of the CAD programs almost on a daily basis. CATIA is a monster. Sure it can do some a amazing stuff, but you have to be a pretty amazing CAD person to figure all of it out as it is well, "CATIA". Almost everyone fan or foe will acknowledge that it is "just difffernt"

So, I am psyched to see them turning it up a bit. I think leveraging the web in a 2.0 kind of way is long overdue for the industry. Interesting points you made on the Matrix side as I am unfamiliar with their technology.

derrek

Re: Future of CAD and cloud computing.

Lou.. great post. Couldn't agree more that this is a direction the CAD/CAE market could take. Not could take, but "will take". I am not sure I know what direction that will take or what it will look like, but for sure, the options are endless.

Isnt there some of this functionality with PDMWorks Enterprise? Online Project Collaboration seems to be the most likely to take the plunge.

In the past, bandwidth, security and accessibility were the limiting factors. the beauty of today is that Google and other monsters out there are making On Demand Software a household reality.

I think it is a matter of time that SW will jump into this. Definitely looking forward to it.
