For No Annual Fee, it provides 3% on groceries, 2% on gas, and 1% on everything else. It works like the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card described in the article, but you trade some of the rewards percentages for the no annual fee.

Re: USPS reveals new stamps planned for May and June

I just wish I knew a release date for Henry James. For some of the items with big discounts, this could easy add up to tens of dollars more.

For example the Nikon camera has a $300 discount off of $800. You would pay tax on the full $800. At a 7% tax rate, it would cost you $21 more than if you bought the camera somewhere else for a flat $500.

Re: Rumor: Amazon To Test Drive-Up Grocery Stores in Silicon Valley

I still think that Amazon should buy Costco.

Re: Cloud9 Blog

Thanks. I don't want to publish my personal API keys, but I do want to be able to run my public code that uses those keys. And I want to enable others to see and run my code with their own set of API keys. Is there any good way to do this without having to paste key strings onto the command line each time I run the project manually?

Re: Giveaway: Win a 200GB SanDisk MicroSD Card!

I'd put it in one of my cheap burner phones that I use as a security camera.

Re: How To Cut Vehicle Emissions 90 Percent: Get Rid Of Human Drivers

But what this doesn't account for is that people would tend to drive farther distances if they didn't have to be at the wheel. A road trip this weekend? No biggie, I can let the car drive all night while I sleep. Triple my commute wouldn't be a big deal if I can work in the car on the way to work.

Self-driving cars would only encourage people to drive more, not less. More driving means more vehicles on the road means more emissions. Whether or the benefits listed in this article could overcome this downside is yet to be determined.

Re: Students make a working miniature Hyperloop, proves it’s feasible on small scale

Yes, but even if the hyperloop was only initially used to move freight, it could have a huge impact on society.

Re: My year in cities, 2014

I've very boring:
Orem, Utah
Hillsboro, Oregon
Seaside, Oregon
Fort Collins, Colorado
Middle of Nowhere, Colorado (x4)
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Re: President Barack Obama to speak near Tappan Zee Bridge

No. It is simply $302B divided by total U.S. population.

That means that someone is paying $950 for myself. That usually means spending money. Where does that money come from? In the case of government spending that comes from taxes, which comes from people like you and me. $302 billion? That averages out to about $950 for every man woman and child in the U.S. That seems like a pretty big cost.

Re: Troy Creates ‘Do Not Knock’ Registry To Keep Pesky Solicitors At Bay

We've had something like this in Fort Collins, Colorado for a couple of years now. It works pretty OK. In addition to the No-Solicitation list, we also have laws requiring solicitors to have background checks and wear city-issued identifcation. Solicitors must respect "No Solicitation" signs and only knock on doors between 9am and sunset. There are exemptions to some of the rules for non-commercial entities.

Re: It's Go Time on Linux | CloudFlare Blog

"Determininig" is misspelled in the first paragraph.

Re: CloudFlare fights off massive NTP reflection DDoS attack

Unless specifically configured against NTP reflection, NTP servers earlier than 4.2.7 are susceptible to being used in these types of DDoS attacks. The problem is that the latest "stable" version of NTP is 4.2.6p5. I suspect that system administrators are hesitant against upgrading to 4.2.7 which is labeled as a "development" release.

Typically NTP is one of those "set up and forget about it" services. Getting system administrators to specifically address this problem through upgrade or reconfiguration will be difficult.

Re: Google Reader Bites the Dust.
