I have heard some people pushing the idea of rent control.

We came to Oak Point because of the services and amenities offered. If we didn't care about those, we would have gone somewhere cheaper.

If an owner can't earn sufficient income from our fees because of rent control, they'd have to cut services. That's not a place we'd want to live.

Rent control is a very foolish idea. If you don't want to pay for the lifestyle we enjoy here, sell and go somewhere else, don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Yes. I was thinking about that last night. I would hope that at some point they'd have an API so we could put up links like "Click here to join us in a conversation about X.."

That becomes interactive RSS.

Include a way for us to add advertising and a lot of people would be doing that.

Assuming this isn't all a hoax, of course. If it is, Rossi should go to jail for a long time.. if not, he's the hero of the millenia and we should shower him with riches. He shouldn't even need a patent - a grateful world should reward him!

Assuming this is real, my understanding is that nobody (including the inventor) claims to understand the physics. So how can they state with assurance that it "is totally clean and green"?

And that, my friend, is what is wrong with this country. Too many gawd-fearing fools ready to take offense when someone else points out how ludicrous their beliefs are.

Not that you aren't entitled to have them. But when you believe nonsense, every now and then somebody is going to allude to that. Get over it.

Well, yes and no.

I sell through my website, but it earns a decent amount of money from "just" ads - more than enough to pay the mortgage and taxes.

Obviously I need other income to live on, and in my case a lot of it comes from efforts on the site, but it's easy to imagine the two being separate - that is, the site still bringing in Google money but everything else coming from unrelated sources - for example, let's say that I totally lost my mind and decided to take a job :-). Concurrent with that (because I've lost my mind, remember) I remove all of my personal selling stuff. Mabe I have to as a condition of employment...

In that situation, the advertising flow is a nice addition to income. I'd need to spend a few hours per month updating and maintaining things, but not many, and I'd still get my mortgage and taxes paid.

So yeah, I agree: if you are looking for your site to support you, it's tough to do with just ads. But there's nothing horrible about it just being extra income.

Of course it's more than that. But if silly stuff like that is broken,, it doesn't make me confident.

How do you think I found that? Because I was putting it on a page and of course it didn't work - the image link was wrong and with no ALT, nothing showed up.

May I suggest also that after uploading a work, you should do what Numly does - provide a bar code or something that links to the work.

Also - you need a command line method of submitting the work and obtaining that link. I generate pages through scripts - if I have to manually visit a web page, I won't use it.

Did you think of asking Numly users what they like/dislike?

A little rough right now - heck, the referral banners don't even work and the "Alt" is in the wrong tag!

They could use a "Upload from URL" to make it easier for bloggers.

I have to renew Numly in December. So far, it looks like that's what I'll be doing, but I'll keep an eye on this.

Actually, I haven't bothered to order anything several times - they didn't have anything I was interested in reading.

I do think that the self selection might sometimes lead to more positive ratings, but I think it can also lead to more negative comments too. Consider this: I HAVE to review most of what I select. I forget now what the rules are, but I can't just ignore something because it bores me and I don't want to finish it.

With Vine, I feel I must review. So now I have a book that is a real yawner, but I have to review it. It's not "bad", but I don't want to say anything nice, so my review drifts more to the negative by itself.

With a book I buy, I can review it or not review it - if anything, it's THOSE books that tend to get better reviews because I usually don't bother with the mediocre, "it's OK but not great books". If I bought it, I probably only review it if it's good or really bad.

You may also not realize that most of us don't need Vine to get free books - if we have reviewed a great many, publishers are always sending us offers for review copies. And again, I ignore 90% of those because I'm just not interested or the publisher is pitching something I lack the expertise to review.

Note also that when I do accept those, I am very likely to review them here as well as at my website. My website has notices that say I may have gotten the book for free - nothing here indicates anything like that. So what's better for you - knowing I got it for free or not knowing?

I assure you: it makes no difference other than as stated above.

I had email from one of our neighbors saying that they enjoyed the ALPrime Deli also ( http://oakpointcommunity.or... )

They said:

"Thanks so much for the heads up on this wonderful deli! We went there tonight and were very impressed with their selection and the sandwiches we ordered were fresh and delicious. We plan to return to try some of their other delicacies and pizza of course. The owner is very personable and went out of his way to make sure we were completely satisfied."
