It will be good to at least have a shot at getting insight and intel from debriefing him rather than piecing it together after he was gunned down or took his own life.

Most of all, I am so happy for Boston, Cambridge and Watertown that this is finally over. The healing can now begin I hope.

Re: Congress Pulls Itself Back From Over Fiscal Cliff

151 Republicans voted against a tax cut tonight. Period. End of story.

Re: Daylight Savings Time: Arizona Got This One Right

Sorry you feel that way. I find the Cleveland area to be nothing like how you describe Ohio. And there are several Ohios. The southern half of Ohio is a completely different world than the northern. There are several variations of those interspersed.

I lived for the first 34 years of my life in Connecticut commuting distance from New York City as I now am now from Cleveland. I could not be happier. It is far less expensive, the schools, at least in my community, are far superior to even the vaunted schools back east and Cleveland offers a more than adequate cultural life. (Though it can't possibly compare to NYC.)

Yes, the lack of sunlight makes us seem like Seattle with lots of snow during the winter. But, I, for one, could not live somewhere where there was no snow.

I am sorry that you found the midwest so abhorrent and am glad that you found other places that you are happier with. I cannot speak for Illinois, Indiana or other places in the Midwest, though I have friends who are quite happy there.

Again, I have found Cleveland to not be quite as "entrenched" in it's old ideas as you suggest. Nor do I find many of the educated, intelligent and creative people I know in the area trying to flee. Quite the opposite. I have witnessed many moving here. My wife worked as a recruiter, so I do have some frame of reference on a number of levels. Perhaps things have changed since you were here. Or maybe we just have a completely different perception of the region.

I don't really know anyone who has a negative perception of Daylight Savings Time. No one likes losing the hour of sleep but literally everyone I have had a conversation with about the subject finds this a fair trade for a later sunset. It is not a conversation that I have had with everyone I know, however, so perhaps there is more backlash than I think. If it came to that, I could live with your solution. I do not however, perceive a problem as you do.

I suppose, for now, we must just agree to disagree. Cheers!

Re: Daylight Savings Time: Arizona Got This One Right

I am happy that you like the way Arizona does things. I doubt very much that you are going to get Ohioans to agree. (Which you, being from Ohio should be aware of.)

Also, would you mind pointing to some links for these studies of which you speak? In particular, I have never heard of the disparity in heart attack rates before. I'd love to see the source information on it. Thanks.

Re: Barack Obama was born in Hawaii

Well, first, your average American cannot always get access to that actual document anymore. I certainly can't for my own daughter in Ohio, only the computer generated copy. The statements from the State of Hawaii seem to support that they have the same type of system/policy.
Now, he is NOT your average American anymore. But a) he still was when everyone decided to make an issue of this and b) why should he? Why isn't a certified copy from a state government enough? It is for the State Department. It is for Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and the Social Security Administration. Why does only Barack Obama have to go to extraordinary lengths to prove his citizenship to you?
Finally, I'd really like to see proof of this "millions" he is spending. I've spent far to much of my time chasing alleged proof on this that was anecdotal at best. I shant waste anymore.
You will not be convinced? So be it. Too bad.

Re: About last night...

I find myself unable to disagree with that statement. Was I the gist of my post about how much she charged for air fair or was it more about the per diem she was charging the state because she was at home?

Now, how the heck Murkowski ever managed to rack up a $463,000 travel charge is something of a mystery but, perhaps, the maintainence and fuel on that luxury private jet was really that much.

I did, and certainly could, (and may yet) get into the ethics of charging the state for your children's travel when it is supposed to be for "official business." That is why that part of the article is also blockquoted.

Again, Murkowski isn't tramping around the U.S. running for Vice-President. Sarah Palin is tramping around campaigning as a reformer and cost-cutter. There are certainly some questions here. If you disagree, that's fine.

Once again, thanks for reading.

Re: Fiscal Conservatism at it's Finest!

Hey buddy, read my whole post. Frank Murkowski wasn't running for Vice-President of the United States as a cost-cutting conservative.

Thanks for reading what you did though.

Re: OMG WTF?!

Thanks for the info.
"Dry" is fine, I actually love reading history and political science books, therefore, I am used to "dry." Four kids, a good marriage and occasional blogging make finding time for this challenging.
Checked out your website. Will be stopping by again. The Walken2008.com banner is a clincher if nothing else! ;-)

Re: OMG WTF?!

Feel free to make any comments on my blog that you wish in the future. I, unfortunately, rarely have had such knowledgeable and well spoken commentary on this blog or it's previous incarnation which is now lost to the world. (Well except for archive.org)
Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Re: OMG WTF?!

Probably a bad analogy on my part. Although, as evidenced by the media's treatment of Tipper Gore's mental health issues, I imaging it could still happen to an Eagleton again.

The judgment issue does make it a somewhat relevant analogy. Did McGovern use poor judgment in selecting him? sticking with him? dropping him? You pick.

I do see a bigger judgement issue here in this selection. If he did vet her, why would he have picked her with so many issues hanging around her. If he didn't, well, why not?

This is not 1972 anymore. You can't hide the skeletons like you once may have been able to. That's why they vet people (usually) in a way that George McGovern and Thomas Eagleton would never have believed back then.

I am still just shocked that this selection was made. I can't find a good reason for this pick.

Thanks for the comment, I apologize for the cheap/convenient use of an inapropriate analogy.

Re: New O'Neill Video

Update: Posted article confirmed. Two thoughts:

It is still just a moot point, to me, as he did pay and is paid up.

Thank goodness I don't live in South Russell. All I have to say about his tax bill for his home is WOW! That's more than triple mine!

Re: New O'Neill Video

Tell you what Scott. He doesn't owe any money now. That is all I confirm from your comment at the moment.
I have traced said article to this website post OH-14: Bill O’Neill, Deadbeat on Naugblog.
Unfortunately, the attribution is to an article found with LexisNexis. That means a) I can't look it up because I don't have Lexis-Nexis and b) readers of that post and this blog can't look it up because your average bear doesn't have LexisNexis.
Regardless, this happened FIVE years ago! A quick search of the Geauga County Auditors site shows that Judge O'Neill IS current on his taxes now.
I will try to verify Naugblogs' claim. (Yes, I do discount it since they seem to be the primary source of ALL mentions I can find on the web. I also think they are so far to the right that they are nearly in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and do not trust them as a source.)
The part about not reading the documents before he signed them does concern me. BUT the taxes are paid! They have been paid! They continue to be paid!
Sorry, if I wanted perfect for my representative I would never find anyone to vote for. Not one. At least this one understands the issues and has the correct position on them.
Thanks for the comment though :-)

Re: Edwards Nightline Video

just glad his kid died so there will be less of Edwards kind to infect good people.

Now some people might delete this. I won't. It will just go to show how credible the comments are.

Now, to those of you who might think I said he came clean, psycho commenter included: If you think I said he came clean, please return to English class. I said, "....he is coming clean to an extent that is way beyond anything I recall seeing from any politician in the past who did something analogous."

That does NOT say he came clean. It says he came closer than anyone else I can recall in a similar situation.
