The hardware costs are coming down, and it would help bridge the gap between where we are with HD download technology and where we are going. this includes full 1080p and audio - neither of which can really be reproduced on downloads (yet). Plus I have a hunch that like newspapers and CDs, even though they are dying, a physical specimen will always exist in some capacity.

Plus I really want it for netflix blu-ray rentals. My ideal setup would be:
appleTV functionality for my music, photos, podcasts, rentals and purchases from itunes
boxee (or equiv) for low-res viewing of tv shows, hulu, youtube and netflix watch it now
blu-ray for high-definition rentals from netflix with true 1080p and digital audio

If I had this, I dont think I would need another box.

I also agree that the DVR makes little sense, especially since most content is going online almost immediately after being aired on hulu/fancast/etc...

Re: boxee blog » boxee in a box: survey results

i'm surprised more people don't want bluray! with the trend of the bluray players offering netflix/etc, i'm surprised this box doesnt attack it from the other angle - a reasonably priced bluray with a focus on web content.

Re: Rainman Decanter

love this

Re: Renaudr

dude on guitar looks like john mayer with some teeth missing

Re: McCain Surrogate Repeats False Claim About Alaskan Oil

Palin made this claim herself. On the other, people believe this should all happen privately because the government is too big, inefficient and won't serve the needs that they believe in properly.

what i find interesting is what a pastor told me once about personal involvement. that many throw their money places because they avoid the personal involvement - throw it over the fence so someone else will do the work. Avoid the grit of actually handing someone a plate of food or caring directly for those in need. The "I pay my taxes" attitude. i think that's true in my life and probably many more americans. i tend to think that the left-leaning philosophy is the farthest away from the actual work of helping people - i.e. tax money goes to military, roads, and oh yeah, helping people too. i wonder if that's good or bad.

if we move the direction of a left-leaning president, most likely this donations figure will drop.

(this line of thinking, of course, has flaws - it's wise for an organized group to do things more efficiently, and not everyone has the time or ability to help in the ways organizations do...but it is an interesting point nonetheless.)

Re: Useless Knowledge

love that you reused the image with all my daughter's photos. awesome!

Re: Useless Knowledge

i agree with jnon. i think it's also people who want to keep tabs on what's going on on the internet. i've heard of companies who keep a pulse on twitter to see if people are talking about them. I wonder if people are trying to do something similar with a broad swath of people with similar interests.

Re: Useless Knowledge - If your not reading Chris Glass...your missing out

the democratic primary breakdown is fascinating

Re: Useless Knowledge

i have a hunch it's fake too. the way everyone is standing around makes me think it's the beginning of some viral campaign or something.
