I think this size device is meant to be held rather than docked and connected to things as a desktop replacement. If you want more comprehensive connectivity, you'd be better served with a different form factor device with more robust ports.

You can use the online storage from SkyDrive through Live Sync Beta, and yes it does remote desktop. 7-Zip has some explorer shortcuts like "Extract to here" and can handle the other compressed file types.

I would go with the Live Essentials Beta which includes Live Sync instead of Mesh... also I am always sure to install TeraCopy, IrfanView32, Notepad++, and 7-Zip

If you're simply wanting to do your own technical work, having your own business might detract from that. There's a lot of extra work that goes into marketing yourself and growing the business to make it sustainable. I had fun with it, but I quickly found that I didn't want to focus my attention on being a businessman. Either way, good luck! I hope you get out of it what you're looking for.
