The DGA restricts areas where their members can work to "protect" them. Just as I cannot work in Canada, DGA Canada members cannot work here. I'm okay with it, as I am allowed to work pretty much anywhere in the states outside of the Los Angeles area, and I have worked there anyway. Just needed to hire a local member to cover the union requirements.

Sounds like a pain but the benefits more than make up for it. As I said, insurance and pension are very good. All my travel is required to be first class. I get extra per diem and hotel money on the road. Every job has to pay me a "completion week", basically an extra week's pay, when I finish. And a percentage of every ticket you buy to a movie goes into my retirement fund. Think about that when you illegally download a film. You're literally taking money out of my pocket. Overall it's a good deal.

Simple: they lose, he's gone for sure. They win, it's 50-50. I think he wants a bigger stage and (subconsciously or not) is looking for an excuse to bail. With a loss he can (somewhat justifiably) blame it on coaching/front office. Will break my heart if it happens though. I'm shamefully wrapped up in the outcome of tonight's game.
