Saw him pitch vs. ChiSox on 5/25/1975 - bat day and a birthday treat from my dad.

Re: 'Death at a Funeral' Movie Review | Hollywood.com

I've seen both. We were pleasantly surprised by the Frank Oz directed original - a cast that we really didn't know - and the surprising twist provided by Dinklage.

In the remake, it seemed like (a) it tried too hard, and (b) it never found any new ground - it's practically a duplicate of the original. Where's the creativity in that? So, while I laughed at a few things, I found the entirety fair to middling. Two stars out of four.

I love Chris Rock, but he's not a dramatic actor in any way. And he never had any chance to be funny.

On the other hand, Ron Glass hasn't been seen since his days on Barney Miller, so it was nice to see he's still got some acting chops...

Re: 5 Actors We'd Like to See Play Kurt Cobain at Hollywood.com

Sorry - this made me laugh. (Age issues notwithstanding)

There is no such thing as a great Val Kilmer movie.

Re: 'How to Train Your Dragon' Movie Review | Hollywood.com

Loved the movie, don't get me wrong. Four stars (out of five) - and best seen in IMAX-3D. My son, who is seven, loved it. If forced to get the DVD and watch it in my house at some later date, I won't complain (unlike, say, if asked to watch Brother Bear again).

That being said, The Incredibles is the best animated movie of all time. In saying that, this isn't a comparison between the two studios, but just a statement of my own opinion. The Incredibles has impressive animation, a well developed story line, humor and concepts that work at so many different levels, and is impressively directed.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

Imagine Frank Howard on Steroids. He'd be Mark McGwire in the late 1990s.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

As much as I liked him as a Cub, he really should go in as an Expo. He was really good then...

Now, if we could only get Tim Raines in there where he belongs.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

Nice call on the card!!!!

Re: Cards from the Diamond

Koosman has had a rough go of it for the last few years - not paying taxes and stuff like that. It's a shame - he was a very good pitcher for a long time.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

Totally loved that card.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

As a teen, my friend and I convinced a bunch of younger kids that Larry Bowa was my dad... It was maybe his fourth professional start, the league had missed a few days due to a work stoppage. Then, later that year, I saw him hit a grand slam off of Tom Seaver in a game the Cubs won 18 - 5.

He threw what was called a knuckle-curve ball.

He's a minor league pitching coach, I think - and I'd love to interview him and write an article on his career.

Re: Cover The Bases Interview: Author Paul Proia

Thank you so much for the opportunity to connect and talk baseball, and possibly reach out to more baseball fans.

Re: Cards from the Diamond

I'm guessing that this is a spring training game and, as a new Cub in 1973, he may not have had a number assigned to him.

Still - very cool photo.

Bob Locker was traded to the Cubs by the Oakland As for outfielder Billy North - and I'm thinking that the A's got the better of that deal.
