Gotta disagree. I'm not throwing away these days in the least, but I will not be grinding out plans for a huge launch either.

There was a point in my life when I would have wholeheartedly agreed with this. Now, I breathe a lot instead and marvel at how much striving is going on around me. I'll spend this week in contemplation about what it is that I really want, in case it's changed since last year. The rest of the time will be split between recharging my batteries and meditating on how grateful I am for what I already have; an embarrassment of riches, really, when you compare it to the rest of the world.

Totally understand where you're coming from, though, Chris. Don't work to hard, good luck, and we'll see you in the New Year.

Re: CraftyPod #121: Putting Ads on Your Craft Blog, with Jena Coray of Modish

Such a good podcast! Thanks to you both. As someone who has started to accept ads recently, the information was invaluable. Thanks to Jena for laying bare all the ins and outs of what it takes to have ads, and thanks to you Diane, as usual, for your awesome line of questioning with your guest. You guys are great!

Re: …In Which I Start a Videoblog. Honestly though, I don't know how you juggle it all. I think I'll nickname you "The Machine" or maybe "The Crafty Terminator". I'm not sure if this clip is from Britain's Got Talent or from a non-U.S. version of So You Think You Can Dance, but I dig it. The isolations are ridiculous. It doesn't have the same retro-cool as the Goddard clip, but I love it. You guys might too. Cheers.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: :: Blog Crash Dance-A-Thon :: Round 4

Ha! I'm crashing you blog crashing once more! I hope you don't mind.:-) The cafe scene from Goddard's Band of Outsiders sprang to mind this morning and I thought I'd add it to the mix. Good times. My favorite dance clips, besides the ones above aren't Lindy clips. One of my all time favorites here is the Nicholas Brothers from Stormy Weather. I knew Fayard Nicholas a little bit toward the end of his life (he's the taller one). Nice guy. Beautiful dancer. Here's the whole clip, including the Cab Calloway bit at the beginning. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Then there's the lesser known Berry Brothers who were more of a novelty act. Not nearly as clean as the Nicholas brothers, but still fun to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Not to leave the girls out, I also love this clip with Eleanor Powell. Word on the street is that she trained this dog herself. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Enjoy!

Re: :: Blog-Crash Dance-A-Thon :: Round 1

Pippy- That first clip is from a movie called Hellzapoppin'. I was fortunate enough to be taught by and become friends with one of the dancers in the clip. His name was Frankie Manning (he's the one in the overalls in the clip) and he was the lead choreographer of the group called Whitey's Lindy Hoppers pictured here. They were also featured in Day at the Races with The Marx Brothers as well as dozens of short films. Thanks for posting the clip! It was nice to see Frankie this morning.

Re: http://garyvaynerchuk.com/post/384525349

Amen! I think it's not only big brands that misunderstand this essential part of social media, it's the smaller folks too, barraging you with announcements about launches and Etsy stores, etc. Totally out of left field. Like you said, Gary...weird. Thanks for the great vid!

Re: Your Blog From the Prospect’s Point of View

I agree with Mikkel that "value focused" posts are the best way to go. I have always spent my time letting my readers know who is producing the most amazing stuff and explained why these folks are worthy of their attention. That kind of activity is a gift to both the person you're posting about and your readers. It makes the pie bigger and spreads goodwill. Any monkey can spot what's wrong with business/product/line of thinking. It takes time and effort to seek out, amplify, and explain why something is good. People appreciate that.

Re: That Woo-Woo Money Thing

"bedazzled cajones" FTW! The girl and I watch Black Adder all the time. Also, we have become recent devotees of Black Books. Foyle's War is also a favorite because Michael Kitchen is so damned good and I have a slight crush on Honeysuckle Weeks. I feel more than "paid" by all the goodwill you've showered me with. I'm glad that you're having so much fun with the technique and you should feel fine about doing anything that you like with it, including selling your portraits. Just keep us posted about your doings so we can include your experiences in this grand experiment we are conducting.

Re: CraftyPod #108: A Podcast About Free, with Paul Overton

Nancy - Thanks for the great comments. I'm in total agreement that not everything should be free. I do think we have to step back and rethink what we can charge for, though. If people believe that information should now be free, which they do, we have to generate some other streams of income and figure out what else we have that is valuable, beyond our patterns and instructions.

For instance, as cable TV continues to tank (it's coming), advertising dollars are being rerouted to the web. If you can generate enough traffic to your blog or website, you stand to make as much in advertising revenue as you would on pattern sales. Then you could afford to give everything away, right? Like Diane says in the podcast, "people will find the free", if you're giving anything away, you will get traffic, and traffic has value.

I'm going to cut myself off now so this comment doesn't become gargantuan, but you've given me much to think about. Rest assured, we will certainly talk more about the intellectual property issue, alternative streams of income, and myriad other pieces of this puzzle on the next show. Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

Re: (Insert Caveman Voice) — Man.
