Not that we have the time for all these discussions but still, every now and then, it's good to actually have a conversation about things!

Speaking of speaking, I hope you'll all be attending the panel discussion that I am moderating at the Boards Summit about client procurement and it's impact on our business. This is another fun topic that I am sure is worthy of a blog post or two so please share your thoughts with me soon so I can incorporate them into the event.

Thanks again,

Paul

Re: defying logic

Jerry,

One last metaphorical comment: I agree that leadership is one of the two most important strands within the twine that binds any organization (or family for that matter). The other strand is vision.

Leadership without vision will get you nowhere and vision without leadership well, remains only in the hearts and minds of thoughtful people like you.

I look forward to learning more as this very compelling situation evolves.

Paul

Re: defying logic

Jerry,

I am very grateful for the warm welcome and I will take you up on your offer!

I found your blog after reading your very insightful post "A Bundle of Sticks" on the Boards website and it got me thinking.

The most important, yet unidentified, element in your story has to do with not that bundle of sticks but rather, what that bundle was bound with.

After all, when the eldest son gathered the broken sticks he needed to secure them tightly with something, or at least, I imagine he would or else when he passed the bundle around it would have fallen apart.

So, I asked myself, did he use a piece of string? A wire? A ribbon?

Your story is a metaphor that elegantly suggests that when similar components (sticks, siblings) are willingly bound together they become, ultimately, unbreakable.

If there was no string or ribbon to bind the sticks, the bundle would fall apart making the individual sticks vulnerable to even more snapping. Metaphorically speaking I would suggest that what binds the children in your story is their father's love for them. His love is the "string" that keeps the "bundle" of children tight and strong.

As far as the AICP is concerned, what would you suggest is the one element that would bind the individual production companies together? What might be the "string" that would bind (but not strangle) all the members?

Paul

Re: defying logic

Jerry,

You raise many valid points, I often dig for logic but usually come up empty handed..perhaps one day we'll get there.

I'll see you at the Summit...and thanks for these posts, always refreshing to hear your point of view.

Paul
