Good suggestions. Since we are talking about culture here, it is good to recall that Halloween was really popularized in the United States by immigrants. Irish immigrants brought jack-o-lanterns and trick or treating and modern Mexican immigration has mixed in elements of the Day of the Dead.

Boy, hard to believe that Irish Central would print this claptrap. Tucker says that there were 40,000 Irish who fought for the Confederacy? Rubbish.

As Al Smith would often say in the face of nonsense "Let's look at the record."

From the leading historian of Irish in the Confederacy David Gleeson:

"In 1860, the eleven states that would become the Confederacy contained about 85,000 Irish residents. In the three border states lived about 95,000 more Irish, giving a total of about 180,000. This total represented about 11 percent of the 1.6 million Irish living" in the United States.

Think about the number he puts forward from the Census. In 1860, there were 1.6 million Irish in the United States. Here is the breakdown for where these Irish-born immigrants lived:

Confederate States: 5.3% of total Irish Immigrant Population
Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland: 5.9% of total Irish Immigrant Population
Northern States (including Delaware): 89% of Total Irish Immigrant Population

This is a very good book to read. It is also a useful introduction to the Civil War for young people because of its exciting narrative.

I enjoyed the first episode. Having just read Women at the Front: Hospital Workers in Civil War America by Jane E. Schultz I learned that hospital workers were disproportionately immigrants and African Americans. Both groups are definitely in evidence in the show. Schultz also says that a large number of nurses were Catholic "nuns". They are seen in the show as well, although so far none have said anything. Perhaps there is a vow of silence?

If we adopt originalism, we need to understand that the term "Natural Born Citizen" did not encompass blacks born in the US either. Is Tribe arguing that blacks cannot be president? This whole NeoBirther approach is disgusting.

The problem with your argument is that the government was not concerned that Jews were trying to kill us, the government was concerned that Nazi terrorists could covertly enter the U.S. as Jews. The government chose to let the Jews die so that infiltrators could not get in. Not apples and oranges at all.
