Unfortunately the demand for shelter for families who have lost their homes takes all of their resources and they recently had to disband the Daybreak Program that shelters families on a rotating basis through 6 or 7 churches in East County. Daybreak is a wonderful program and we, the churches, hope to continue this program by partnering with Family Promise. Unfortunately it will take several months to get this off the ground as we need more churches to become involved. As one who was recently a volunteer in the Daybreak program I see the wonderful and supportive benefits for the families. Thank you. Patty Olson Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

Re: Pamplin Media Group - Centennial board may strike 'Lynch' from three schools

I suggested to 2 members of the school board to use these three names Lynch Family Elementary, Patrick Lynch Meadows and Catherine Lynch View. Women. Because I am white I am therefore a racist and Jacobsen feels she needs to educate me? When did the Women's March become a us vs them thing. When did it become black vs white? We are women who have been denigrated by Trump and the GOP. I for one will not sit by and let Trump and the GOP MANDATE what is or isn't right for ALL women. I understand what Cindy is saying and I agree with her. Thank you Cindy for saying your opinions with passion and integrity. I am attending the rally to bring light to the demeaning values Trump and the Republican Party have for all women. Women rich or poor, white or black have rights to equal pay, a right to choose, a right to be treated with respect. Trump and the GOP want to control all aspects of a woman's life and that is not acceptable. I am part of several groups, PN Oregon, ATO Oregon, Women's March on Washington Portland and Indivisible. I and my friends are going without being associated with any of these groups. We are going as women with some men who support the rights of women to be treated with dignity and respect.

Re: Oregon militants hurl insults at conservationists calling out Bundys for trying to steal public land

And they want a meeting with the community of Burns. BMC syndrome for sure. How do you know if someone toting a weapon such as this is not mentally unbalanced? What in the world is he trying to protect? He is just endangering more people. As more people carry guns around like this how will we tell those who are legally carrying and those who are not . . . those who may harm someone and those who will not. Wise? are you kidding me?

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

I needed to make a correction on my last post. According to the MAILERS COUNCIL WHITE PAPER, mailers can save up tp 10.5 cents per piece off their first class rate of 44 cents. What they charge their customers is a differnet matter. My previous post I said they can mail at 10.5 cent per peice. I believe that is incorrect. However, that is still quite a cost savings to the large mailers that perform work for coporate mailers. According to the Mailers Counci lthey recommend the following to Congress and are lobbying congress for the following. 1.Reductions of USPS employees. 2. Closure of retail and uneeded facilities. 3. Control over compensation. 4. In favor of bills of adjusting the pre-funding of Retiree Health Benefits. 5. Allow control with the "financial health" of the USPS when it comes to collective bargaining.
6. and complete the study of a 5-day delivery. You can find this information on line under Mailers Council White Paper. It is my opinion that this COUNCIL wants to control how the USPS is run for thier own benefit. Not for the benefit of the everyday Postal Customer and what the Postal Service was founded on.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

.I am going to stay on track as the site was about Direct Mailing Industry. Some say it is the bread and butter of the Postal Service. There may be some truth to that once a long time ago. The Mailers cost for 1st class presort has decreased while postal rates for the public have gone up and up. A first class letter for the American Citzen is 44 cents. The cost for a Direct mailing company is as low as 10.5 cents. Do they want more cuts or should they pay a fair rate? And the direct mailers do not want to go a 5 day deliver either. That is understandable as thier business would suffer. They may also oppose the closure of post office station that have post office boxes as that is the delivery point for many of these Direct Mailers and it is a revenue wource for the USPS. I enjoy many of the posts here especially CallEmAsYouSeeEm. Very enlightening points of view. Great ideas for my news article.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

Yes the remarks especially in this last post have been tainted and insults thrown this way and that. As I said before your post does you justice. Good luck to you as well and even though your last comment was out of line and a personal you have that right.. The only post I have actually challenged started with the comments in your first post. As I said before ROJA I am done. I do enjoy reading the other posts and the other points of view as well. That is something we can agree on! 8-)

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

Triple Ouch . . and the award goes to "roja". congratulations. You seem to know a lot about the postal service. I bow down to you and all of your mis- information or to be politcally correct, your opinion. Your slaming of me in this last post has only garner support. You are the one using and making the attacks with nothing to back it up. And to say things to me like " come out of my hole" is a dirty and disparaging remark. Also if you knew anything about the postal service you would know that we are a government agency only we do not receive govenment subsidies. Everyone knows that. I am not with NALC nor do I get my info from the Postal Reporter as you say I do. From you opening statements and your barbs throughout your tirade, I will assume that you hate unions and you hate the postal service. So you should not use the postal service and get rid of your mail box. The postal service has not gone to congress for a bailout, such as businesses, banks and companies have. I am done with you. What you have said in this last post shows everyone where you stand and how angry you really are.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

Part of the USPS difficulty is the economic collapse and is exacerbated by the PAEA, Postal Accountabilty and Enhancement Act of 2006, which requires the USPS to prefund its retiree healthcare benefits. No other fed. agnecy is forced to operate with this budgetary constraint. This would change the how the benefits would be paid and the reduce the 2006 to the percentage rate prior. It would relieve the postal service $2 billion per year, and provide substantial short-term relief during the economic crisis. Now do your research.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

Ouch and double ouch, that is not what I said. I was only responding to what you wrote. YOU brought the enhancment Act. I still see no facts from you. Are you a postal employee? Or just a disgruntled person in general. You are very angry.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

Ouch . . you are taking this way to personal . . believe me I have worked for the USPS for 30 years. The money comes from the revenue the postal service brings in from sales and services NOT from tax dollars. When the adminstration and the board of governors decided to make the USPS pay a higher percentage rate through the guise of the Enhacement Act, it only made thing worse for the USPS coupled with the econmy. And I am sure you will make some smart remark about that as well. You seem very angry at the Postal Service. The direct mailers need to pay more for the service instead of making the the rate increase ONLY for regular postal customers. That about sums it up.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

You are absolutley wrong. It is not a bailout. The USPS was paying over and above the normal amount of that percentage. I would be very interested as to where you get your facts. And where is your proof of financial track record that is abyssmal. And you sound very angry. The USPS has been paying into the retirees H B plan for many years. In 2006 Congress passed legislation to increase the percentage amount that was over and beyond the amt. that other Fed. agencies are required to pay. Get your facts straight.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

There are many jobs that pay $20 to $23 an hour. Why are some people so quick to drag the working class down to the poverty level instead of giving the american working class a decent wage level. We should be raising the level of wages where the working class can afford to live, not drag them down so they have to get help from tax dollars and state and federal government.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

No You don't get those items as you are not union. Did you believe the post office would grant those to you because you are a supervisor. Hmmmmm. You chose to be paid at a higher salary wage and you knew that you would not recieve OT when you applied for supervisor. How many bonuses did you get over the years? FYI we have all been in a hiring freeze for a long time.. Aprx.15 supervisors in the portland district were just promoted to postmaster levels and the others were bumped 2 levels. So quit crying and quit blaming others. And for your information "Stewart" is a mouse, the correct pronounciation is Steward with a D. You sound like you are really unhappy as a supervisor, but please don't come back to craft.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

Maybe some of these huge corporate mailers should think about giving back since they pay virtually nothing for thier first class mailings. Since when did true americans advocate lay offs? The Postal Service has been reducing its number of employees for serveral years. The Postal Service does not recieve tax dollars to run it's business like all other government agencies. The only thing the Postal Service was asking in this legislation was relieving the Postal Service of the huge payment to retirees health cost. This was enacted by congress in 2006 requiring to Postal Service to pay a higher percentage in the retiree health care than other federal agencies , almost twice the amount. Since that time the postal service has not gotten out of the red. This legislation was not a bail out. Maybe congress should look at these large mailers and the cost breaks that are given to them. How do you like them apples Del Polito? The american people are funding the price cuts for your mailings through rate increases every year. Shame on you for promoting layoffs.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

THERE IS NO BAIL OUT. This was legislation to stop the huge amount of pre-funding that is paid by the postal service over and beyond what other percentages are paid. There are no tax dollars involved. the Postal Service does not receive tax dollars. We are self sufficient and DO NOT RECIEVE TAX DOLLARS. THIS WAS NOT A BAIL OUT. This was a release, if you will, from the huge pre funding payment of over 8% into retiree's health care. Get it straight Gene Del Polito. Don't try to schmooze this over with your untruths.

Re: Mailers Fear New USPS Reform May be Needed

I was taught from a very young age that one never was to go backward in anything they did. we were taught to always go "forward". Making lay offs and closures the 'thing' to do is many steps backwards. We should be looking at ways not have have employees laid off. Do you understand that lay offs are a bad thing Gene Del Polito. The truth is these huge mailers only pay about 20 cents for first class mailings because of the cut rates THEY get for pre-sort and they would be in dire starights if the postal service went to a 5 day delivery or "went under". These people do not care about the neighborhood post offices and could care less if they closed. And if truth were to be told, the every day customer is paying for these businesses cheap rates of 20 cents or so, every time there is postal rate increases. So lets be clear, lay offs are a bad thing, unemployment is a bad thing and post office closures are a bad thing. The CEO mailers don't care about anyone or anything except the almighty dollar and themselves. Oh and by the way, the postal service is NOT subsidized by tax dollars.
