At what point do we start saying no? At what point do enough people leave the business so that is that is no longer a real infrastructure? Los Angeles is great for production because of its diversity of options and how quickly any idea can be executed. As companies close and people leave, at some point there is a tipping point and the business will change.

Re: sneak preview

I wish I could be there. Will there be web casts? Break a leg. Since it is two events, do I say break both your legs?

Re: track & field

I agree Mamta was a great hire. She is a pleasure to deal with and a real credit to your organization.

Re: can you f***ing hear me now

Thanks! Your post made my day.

Re: digging myself a deep hole

Pull stills from bids and on set photos of jobs your company has done and discuss how budget affected the creative process. On this job we originally wanted to do x but it ended up y. Here is a variation of the old theme, options, cheap and fast. I exchange options for good. To explain how when there was money, you could leave room for improvisation. Improvisation is expensive. You can talk about how financial constraints have limited the options you can give during production. There was a whole generation of commercial directors (ie Pytka, Tony Kaye) who improvised on set to bring a freshness to their work. How that model is less and less possible. I hope this is some help.

Re: if you give a copywriter a cookie

What a wonderful positive message. They are very much appreciated. About the Einstein letter, no one understood that better than Picasso. When signing a check, he would occasionally make a small doodle such as a bull. So that few would ever cash checks given by him. They were too valuable. I was thinking of taking an art class but don't think it would have the same affect.

Re: world's greatest steakhouse

Wonderful story.
