Look, I write for spreadingsantorum.com. You know? The website founded and operated by Dan Savage with the express purpose of derailing Santorum's career? That one. I'm definitely not an anti-choice zealot.

I am, however, a proponent of fighting battles we can win. As there is NO CREDIBLE EVIDENCE THAT THE LABOR WAS INDUCED and questionable evidence that it was sped up, I just don't think we can win this one. I'd love it to be true, but we just don't know that it is.

Call me whatever you want. As a vocal supporter of the left, I'm sure I have been called worse by conservatives.

Again, this 'article' is the only one I've found that says that the labor was induced. The New Yorker article it sites as a source says that the labor was a result of Karen Santorum's infection.

Fine. This isn't an 'article' but an act of 'satire,' which the writer believes means he gets to misrepresent the truth. But here's an excerpt from the original New Yorker article which he cites as a reference:

"Initially the outcome looked good, but Karen soon suffered an infection
from the operation, and she went into premature labor. The Santorums
decided against aborting their baby."Read more http://www.newyorker.com/ar..., I am not at all a Santorum supporter. In fact, I am a part of his 'Google problem.' But I also think that the things he actually does and says give us more than enough fodder with which to go after him. There's no reason for us to lie about a family tragedy in an effort to discredit him: there are ways of doing that without hurting anyone.

I don't think the burden of proof is on me. Again, this is a serious accusation. It would be great if it were true, because it would prove that Santorum is a hypocrite. Unfortunately, it is, at best, a grey area. And a very dangerous one at that.

I can't believe how much press this is getting. I hate Santorum as much as the last guy, but his wife was in labor because of her infection. All the drugs did was speed it up. Not an abortion.

Misrepresenting the facts to make a point doesn't do anybody any good, except perhaps Santorum. If he calls attention to this situation and claims he's a victim, he'll be right.
