Please stop using past tense. We are still facing oppression. I don't
need you to feel guilt, and never said so. Acknowledging that you
still reap the benefits of such isn't the same thing as feeling guilt.
This isn't about your feelings of guilt. I couldn't care less about
that. It's about being a decent human being.

It's a textbook example of people's reactions to this topic. People
need to know I'm not fighting with the air, but with people who really
believe these things, and are so adamant about them that they're
willing to speak publicly and ascribe their name to them. This is
beyond an anonymous troll. This person actually believes she's got
legs to stand on in this argument.

I respect individual choice and autonomy.

While I understand your thought processes, I think you've entered an
unfounded slippery slope argument. I did not say I respect the army, I
said I respect the people who volunteer to do that job.

I respect certain armies or aspects thereof, as this modern world
requires a certain level of military. However I do not respect them
all. I don't want this blog to start becoming about the politics of
war, so I'll leave it at that. I think that you are taking a few too
many liberties with my words by jumping from people--> colonialism.

I am a dynamic person with many opinions. Oversimplification of my
statements does nothing but create a conflict which doesn't exist.

I encourage people to experience and join in legitimate Native
gatherings. That's fantastic. What I'm against is the caricature and
erasure of my people that comes with dressing up as native for
halloween, for describing a geometric patterned item at forever 21 as
"native" or Iroquois etc. I'm not at all advocating for the
separation of races, but rather for the coming together of people for
an authentic and modern representation of living native peoples and a
respect for our history and traditions.

I can tell she isn't native simply because the headdress is on her
head. A woman. Not in a ceremony. None of these things are ever
appropriate.

If you really do care, get educated. Anecdotes don't mean anything

Never claimed to own the feather. If you read further, you'll see
that there's lots of discussion about the limits/extent to which this
blog is addressing the trends. Sometimes these things are fine,
sometimes they get taken too far. It's all about making educated and
conscientious decisions.
