You can't hate something that by definition you simply believe does not exist. These people equate "god" with the easter bunny, sasquatch, and Roswell UFOs... Myths. They don't hate god; they hate what they see people doing in the name of what to them is a completely fictional entity. And they have a point. I can easily cite 20 recent examples (as could all of us) of people doing reprehensible things in the name of their god. History is on their side here, and we have to acknowledge that and be better.

Re: City begins installation of new LED street lights

I love seeing this! Lower electricity and maintenance costs, so the city can spend that money on other worthwhile projects. Port

Actually untrue. The Triumph's propulsion system is electric, and is powered by multiple generators. It has (I think) 5 large generators on board plus a backup, and 80% of that energy goes to the electric propulsion system when it is underway. This fire seems to have disabled most or all of their main generators, so they are running on backup power. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

And most modern cargo ships do not have multiple propulsion engines - the big boys are all being built as single screw designs with a single huge low-speed diesel to propel. - See the Emma Maersk as an example of how large cargo ships are being built - http://en.wikipedia.org/wik.... They are going for efficiency, pure and simple.
The real question to ask is: how did a fire (that was quenched by automated equipment) take out all primary generators? Why no isolation?

Re: 'It Could Be A Lot Worse,' Triumph Passenger Says; Cruise Ship Docking At Ala. Each ship has a limited cellular system that (I believe) relays calls via satellite. If close enough, passenger cell phones could hook up to the system on the other ship. I doubt that they have any kind of data capability (or if they do, it would be very slow and overloaded).
And now that they are closer to land, I imagine that most passenger cell phones are at 0 percent charge or close to it.

Re: Mophie Juice Pack Pro

I've owned a couple of Mophies, and while I really appreciate the extra battery life (especially when traveling and using the GPS a lot), I don't think I will be buying another one. The weak point for me has been the micro-USB connector. Both of my Mophie cases eventually broke at that connector - it is just not very robust. And it is also a pain to have to carry a separate cable for plugging in when it is in the case - why couldn't they just find a way to use the standard dock connector? (I imagine because then they would have to pay Apple $$$?)

Re: El Gaucho\'s Reel Problem

If there was a grain of truth contained somewhere in here, it has been completely eclipsed by the snarky lecturing tone of the review.

I got to this page from a Google search (I've never been to Aqua/Waterfront Grill and was looking for info and reviews), and was massively confused by the discontinuity. I saw this place rated 4 stars on Yelp, 4 stars on CitySearch, 4.5 stars on UrbanSpoon, etc., and then I arrived on this page???

Don't like the food or service? Fine - write an accurate review reflecting the problems you had. But journalistically speaking, I don't think I have even seen an op-ed piece or letter-to-the-editor with such an obviously biased/scathing/lecturing tone (and THAT is saying something in today's ridiculous political environment), let alone something that is supposed to be an impartial review.

Bottom line: this reflects poorly on the Seattle Weekly, and damages your credibility as a reliable resource for reviews. I'd rethink my editorial policies a bit if I were you (or wake up the editor who was asleep at his desk when this went out). A better writer and a better editor could have made the intended point without turning the reader off... This is Seattle - we prefer our information accurate and our tone civil :)

Re: Nathan Myhrvold's bible of molecular gastronomy

The biggest fail here is that this technology guy released it as a huge set of coffee table books instead of taking the opportunity to make it an ebook or some kind of iPad/mobile app (look at Gore's latest book-as-iPad-app - awesome reading experience).

This thing has a shipping weight of almost 50 pounds and costs darn near $500 at Amazon. Making it an ebook would have saved hundreds-to-thousands of trees, eliminated large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, resulted in a better reading experience, and likely increased his viewership and profits by allowing the price to be set much lower (resulting in increased sales quantity).

Thumbs-up for the content, I guess, but monumental fail for the medium.

Re: http://thechicktionary.com/post/1313633802

Have your doc give you a prescription for Immitrex. Say it isn't so!

You should check with a local reputable piercing person while you are left-coasting, and see if any simple things can help. Sometimes simply switching to a better grade of jewelry or a different metal can significantly help things along (happened to my wife - took hers almost 5 months to heal, but has now been fine for several years). It's worth 20 minutes to check it out.

Good luck with it.
