Why don't you stop spending time badgering people who are trying to make a difference in an industry they care to change. I can be upset at a cousin for saying something prejudice, but I'm not gonna stop talking to them. Refinery29 is like my cousin. Thank you for finally reaching out. I'm an avid reader of your site in it's entirety (daily). In that description, you'll find that the phrase is not only linked to the idea of a weather pattern, but "Indian" race is attached to it as defined by the American English-- non natives to our country. So if we're talking origins, the word was created by colonizers to describe a weather pattern with characteristics linked to the colonized peoples.

I read the Dolce and Gabanna "Colonialist Chic" article, the articles on appropriation of native imagery, and hope you see that I just want to see consistency with your content. I work in fashion as well, and understand not many people in the industry have made steps like your publication to raise consciousness on taboo subjects, so I have applauded your efforts in the past, as I attempt to do the same. When I saw an SF article titled "Indian Summer," it was a big let down. I hope you see the definition of Indian Summer as one that debases the experience of native peoples. If I can in any way encourage harnessing consciousness in the way I know you all have before, I would be so honored and excited to be part of that filter that rarely exists in the industry. And once again, R29. Articles that are so obviously about controversial topics to get readers stirring, which is great, but when will you realize that "Indian Summer" as an offensive, racially charged phrase should have no space in your consciousness or articles to describe fashion in relation to a freaking weather pattern. I have my feelings about the ad too, but how can I even begin to engage if I feel like your alignment with racially conscious content is skewed to hype articles instead of genuine care? Guess I can anticipate my comment going unanswered once again.

HEY LADY! Wow, I must say my mind flashed to the image and sound of one particular post...a cinemagraph of candles flickering with the subtitle "Candles alone in a ballroom flicker in anticipation." It was like a National Geographic post where not only is the photo mysterious and mesmerizing, but the CAPTION just absolutely pulled together this entire story in my mind of personified ambiance, how can I even explain? I feel like my photography strives for those moments-- where images can reach a level of emotional connection beyond comprehension. Your work is inspiring to say the least. What I would love to see from you in the future? Some conceptual self-portraits! I'd love to see you turn the camera on yourself, not only to capture those cute, special moments, but to take yourself on a journey through your own mind. We see it everyday, and I'd love for you to share your journey of traveling through your own mental landscapes to provide us with beauty inspired by yourself as the subject! Can't say what an awesome treat it would be to tote around this cute little number and toss all my canvas and tattered leather i'll-get-a-better-one-later camera bags!
