Well obviously iTunes needs servers, but it might be a bit much. At the same time I am wondering what kind of equipment they would OWN. I mean production is outsourced.

They must run together. Each sold Siri instance links to more server power beeing needed. Each iCloud User means more storage and syncing abilities. So these two do track.

Can't these costs be servers too? They are possibly factored in as costs of iPhones as Siri needs server power. Also they are used to "produce" iCloud. Just a thought.

great points already and I am by now more leaning towards an LP but ... there always is a but ;).

An LP influences the pre-money valuation. e.g. if somebody said that they would want to invest 1 million at 4 million without LP and somebody else would say that they want an LP, then the valuation would go up to let's say 5 or 6 million. The reason is just the downside protection. You can't have both. (same would be true if you had one bidder that has the choice of an LP, but yeah, it is all hypothetical)

So for me, an LP needs to be simple (I either get my money back or take the part of the sale based on my share but not both) and it needs to allow the founder to keep more shares than she otherwise would.

Than it seems to be fair for both, especially considering that you can't sell without the founders wanting to.

I can only say by comparing general none targeted campaigns across different properties. And it shows in revs per Mille being a tenth of other sites.

So to justify paying higher cpms you need branding values because performance wise it is a nogo. Sadly agencies are going more and more performance.

Don't overestimate stuff. Nothing really changed. The only thing that changed is that bad things come back to haunt you faster. Other than that, sure, good customer service is important.

I for one think it is outrageous that facebook puts my name next to ads just because I liked something about the company, if even that.

And as for other measurements. We have performance advertising. We can measure conversion very well. We can do it post-click and post-view and you know what? Social Networks s**k at converting! You get loads of impressions for next to nothing with tiny CTR and miniscule LR. Unless you are absolutely well targeting in which case you get no impressions, reach or volume. And that is the question.

How do you advertise the brands that need to be pushed? This will be interesting.

We are mixing two different things here.

One: Knowing what kind of / how many visitors/users/realpeople you have on your site.
Two: Publishing somewhere to compare with others.

One in my mind is the important one in the context of the post.
Two is totally different and just needs a decision on where the people you need to reach with that statement go looking for their data.

I wrote two articles about the subject in 2000, looking at log analyzers and counters back then. I ran a counter, so this might not be unbiased, but the important point is:

There is no correct way to do this. You just need to understand what you are collecting and how it is collected to really get most out of the data.

Just one small correction, it is the cheapest form of online advertising, mainly because it only pays what it can afford via sales or leads. It is working because the conversion rates are relatively constant, there are enough placements out there to put them on, and lots of people with placements do not have access to branding campaigns. on very niche sites affiliate ads might outperform google adsense.

try putting it below the article, a content ad, above the stars. You will be suprised the difference placement makes. But it might move it to a EUR but as this is not a site geared for AdSense you will not be getting $30 of course, but very few people do.

The problem is that with a previous show they had somebody who was "ugly" but authentic. They fixed that person up and suddenly the authenticity was gone. Some of the people with the show said that this time they will do their best to not screw it up ;) meaning leave it like it is.

With the costs that the NYT has for authors, Google will very likely not buy the company. and cultural and culinary coverage just doesn't convert performance advertising wise. So I'd lean out of the window and say "nope, not going to happen."
