Again, IMO, the biggest hurdles to overcome are the fallibilty and selfish nature of human beings. We can debate all day about politics, social systems, theories, philosophies and ideologies, but the nuts and bolts always come down what makes any form of collective society function effectively...people. I like the idea of economic democracy. And I think it's even doable on a small scale. But, the cultural shifts, significant investment and political will needed to start even an incremental adoption doesn't exist today or in any future I can envision.

The people running government got us where we are. It's going to take a very long time to replace them with people who have the character and wherewithal to get us out of here.

Democratic control is much less "controlling" today than democratic division and demonization is. And I don't believe the billionaire oligarchs running the world today are going to want to relinquish the power and control they so selfishly weild over middle class, working class and underprivileged citizens. The first baby step is to level the playing field. We aren't anywhere near to that happening.

I guess I'm a Social Democrat who rejects the inequalties/inequities borne of concentrated unchecked wealth/power. I prefer the benefits of a pluralistic economically balanced society over the deprivations created by predatory capitalism/greed and the human suffering that results from extreme economic disparity. I don't see how the increasing wealth, power/oppressive rule of oligarchs ends well for our society or the vast majority of citizens. I'd rather we not have a billionaire class of greedy power hungry sociopaths who have much, much, more than they need, and still "want" more, while so many others don't have what the need and "can't" get more because the system doesn't allow them to.

Not a fan of true Marxism or Communism. Marxism requires a dictatorship to transition to Communism. No system labeled as "Communism" has sustained itself long-term in its purest form, as envisioned by Marx or others.

I don't see "government" as the rotten apple. I see the dysfunction, fallibility and flawed human nature of the people we elect to run it as the rotten apples. Even today, if congress and the White House faithfully adhered to the checks and balances prescribed for our three branches of government, we'd have much less wealth disparty. The problem is, they aren't and haven't been for decades. The system hasn't changed for the worse, the people we trust to protect, abide by and enforce it have.

There are two primary things I believe must be changed in order to begin ending the corruption of congressional elected officials:

1. Candidates must both have the exact same financial means to run their election campaigns. Money has to STOP being a MAJOR determinate of a candidate winning/losing an election. Corporate, billionaire, PAC and foreign donations must be strictly prohibited. Corporations are NOT people and money is NOT free speech!

2. For-profit media/journalism must either be eliminated altogether or legally mandated to be unbaised, fair and equal. Bribery/pay-to-play politics and politicians can no longer be tolerated. Politicians who sell their votes/legislation must be criminally prosecuted. No longer can a major corporation be able to place their disproportionately fat heavy thumbs ($) on the election scale.

Of course there are many other local and regional election rules, regs and procedures that need to be standardized, but these two, I see as essential national first steps.

I've been a lifelong liberal Democrat. The first Democratic presidential candidate I campaigned and voted for was George McGovern 1972. I remember what being a Democrat "used" to mean. Today, that Democratic Party no longer exists. Democrats, in their misguided efforts to defeat conservative Republicans, slowly moved to the RIGHT. MAGA Republicans have moved to the extreme RIGHT. And Democrats have alienated many, many voters by moving farther to the RIGHT.

Also, the powerbrokers increasingly became focused more on maintaining power than maintaining the principles they used to value and identify with and that older liberals STILL value and identify with. And that's why so many younger and older Democrats feel betrayed and abandoned.

I would NEVER vote for someone like Donald Trump or anyone who supports his amoral corruption. Honestly, unless somehow a truly good and honest person manages to rise above the crowd, I'll likely never vote again for a presidential candidate because he/she is ONLY the lesser evil.

Election after election, year after year, Democratic voters have been offered candidates who ONLY strived to be the LESSER EVIL rather than the GREATER GOOD. And when it comes to the influence of $$$, DEMOCRATS have become nearly INDISTINGUISHABLE from REPUBLICANS. The old idiom about pocketbook voters is absolutely true. And it's never been more influential than it is today.

DEMOCRATIC voters, right or wrong, feel more and more victimized/taken for granted by the people who make promises they RARELY or NEVER keep. That's what makes them vulnerable to believing the BULLSHIT that the Donald Trump's of the world SELL them. They need to believe a better future is attainable because the present is scaring the shit out of them!
