I reached a similar conclusion after reading "What's She Doing Here" by Kate Clanchy (recommended) and have been banging on about it for a while - as well as reducing my working hours. Great to see people thinking the same. Thatcher helped to convince a generation that feminism meant conforming to the patriarchal ratrace, and we haven't shaken it off yet.

I work in in design for TV; an industry as self-importantly urgent as the next, but people do freelance, which has given me the opportunity to work part time very successfully. "Be the change you want to see" and all that. The ultimately unhealthy and unsustainable 5-day model can be changed, only if we change it. That seems very obvious, but even in a think-outside-the-box industry, my previous employers wouldn't go for a 4 day week for staff. This included a director who once wistfully agreed a shorter week would be fabulous - as if it was not within her power to make the shift happen. We have to make the change.

As a friend of mine said, a full-time job is "greedy" !

Love it. I feel a bit homesick, in a nice way.
At first the detail in the face does seem busy, but it feels as if the light is on her skin and she's in the gardens; another level of integration which works really well. Also that detail suggests to me it's a print not photoshop composite.. which makes me like it more.
I want to print again. Get me in a dark room. Mmmm, chemicals. :)
