The Bergen County Freeholder budget has been cut significantly. It seems clear that Driscoll is one of the few officials who approaches things pragmatically, rather than with unachievable fantasies.

See for yourself:

http://www.northjersey.com/...

Re: Was Scripting News really born on April 1? Went to see it with a friend of mine and was frustrated when he kept raving about it. I suppose he is easily satisfied, but I loathed it. I'll tell you why ; the film simply did not have that "Sherlock Holmes" feel to it. It felt like some generic detective film. ugh.

Re: Working on new editorial tools. Would you ever consider using a dynamic wordpress back end for scripting.com?

Re: Coolest thing my father did (Scripting News)

Now I'm just imagining what Dave Winer the teenager was like. It is sort of interesting that you chose to be drinking wine, I would think that some hard liquor, or just plain old beer, would be more "cool". The problem with laconi.ca is that it tries to imitate twitter too much, rather than making any real innovation on its own.

Re: Bad Hair Day #1

Dave, regarding your desire to have a twitter community for your blog, why can't you just set up a laconi.ca server? This would allow you to play with the design and customize it to your heart's content. Leo Laporte has one running for his twit community on army.twit.tv

Re: Rebooting the News #18

Regarding twitter's desire to own all of the user content: It would be best for twitter to license the content in one of two ways 1) make all content public domain like other sites(i.e.digg) 2) Make the content property of the user under the creative commons license.
The issue with the latter is the fact that if the user owns their content, then twitter is limited by that license and may encounter difficulties.

Re: The longest day (Scripting News)

Dave, it was truly incredible to follow your journey across Europe. Analog signals take up a tremendous amount of valuable spectrum, where as digital TV signals are able to pack multiple channels on the typical one channel analog band. The cable companies are going nuts over this transition and using it to their benefit to trick unknowing customers into thinking they must upgrade to payed cable.

Re: tumbléo

Party!

Re: User data ownership on Facebook and why it doesn’t matter

Robert, what about the professional photographers, and other content creators who want to share their work, but still maintain the rights? Granted, Phelps did make a dumb move, but he should not be ostracized about it. It's not like pot affected his athletic abilities, in fact it would have made theme worse...the bigger concern in all o this is steroids...which luckily he did not take. For one thing, Leo sort of nurtured Kevin Rose to stardom. Leo, is a classy broadcaster, not just podcaster. He respects his audience and understands that content is most important, not expensive sets(i.e. techtv, Rev3). Maybe my outrage is due to my heavy bias; twit in my mind is what will survive in years down the road, not just some dumb meme like tech crunch, or diggnation. Then again, who know if Forbes will make it another half a decade.
