They were still doing covers up through "Help!" You hit a dry patch in the middle years, but you could show them in the studio for "All You Need is Love," then cut to the credits after "La Marseillaise." Then you just jump ahead to the "Get Back" sessions.

"Analysis of Cork-Based Networking" isn't the best (that'd be either "Cooperative Polygraphy" or "Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality") but it's the one I've come back to the most this season. It's a great Annie plot after at least two seasons of the writers not having a clue what to do with her. Plus I'm a sucker for any episode that fleshes out Greendale beyond the main cast. If they come back for another season, bringing back Nathan Fillion, Kumail Nanjiani, et al could help them compensate for losing Jonathan Banks.

I like to look at it as a stealth sequel to "The TV Set," which had a couple of actors from this movie. The latter movie really benefits from the extra layer, turning a standard complaint about hammy actors and soulless executives into something deeper.

The Strokes? They had the same breathless hype and "rich kid" backlash (or at least the slightly gentler 2001 equivalent). I saw them on their first U.S. tour and Julian Casablancas was almost as uncompelling as Lana Del Rey, although he at least got to hide behind more uptempo songs.

I won't say Hartman/Carvey/Hooks/Lovitz were more talented than the original cast, but it's the era that holds up best. I'm watching the Ebersol years on Netflix now and counting the episodes until Brad Hall gets fired.

We have a weekly man-on-the-street feature that we take turns doing. You really have two options: Ask a fluff question like "What are your Fourth of July plans?" and get done in 15 minutes, or go for something newsy and brace yourself for an hour of people either shooting you down or having no idea what you're talking about. Both have their drawbacks. Our former editor was notorious among the staff for giving us questions with long, multiple-clause setups on breaking state financial news that required printing out an AP article to bring along with us. If you looked down during the windup ("Given the state's $330 million deficit, and in light of the governor's desire to find a revenue-neutral replacement for the business tax ..."), you could pinpoint the moment when even the people who genuinely wanted to help tuned out for good.
