I had no idea he pitched a Batman movie. If you haven't checked them out yet, you should get some of the stuff he did for the X-Men comic. It's great, great stuff--it really reminded me of why I loved X-Men in the first place.

Have you read All-Star Superman? I LOVE that series. It's a 12-issue miniseries that takes place outside of the regular DC continuum, and they start by telling you that Superman is dying. The rest of the books has Superman tying up loose ends, tidying up his accounts, and trying to make sure the world will be alright without him.

There's another book that I would love to see as a movie, and it comes highly recommended if you don't have it yet--Superman:Birthright. It's really what Superman Returns should have been (and I actually liked that movie), and it's got a page right at the beginning that would be perfect for an origin story--as the capsule that holds baby Kal-El rockets toward earth, its life support systems failing as it enters our atmosphere, the next panel is a speeding bullet in the present, and the next four or five panels alternate between the bullet and the capsule and ends with Clark catching the bullet.

Re: A Day in the Life - Joss Whedon’s Batman Movie that Never Was

For what it's worth, there are some later (late 80's/early 90's) John Byrne books over at Amazon. You can get the Dark Phoenix Saga for sure, and I think they have Uncanny X-men Omnibus. I think that's sort of an answer to the Essential Uncanny X-men, which collects the Kirby/Lee era.

Also, they just ended the Scud: The Disposable Assassin series. They just (I think last week) put out the Scud Omnibus, so you can read the entire series in one gigantic book.

Re: A Day in the Life - I’m not real familiar with the series but this has...

I'm about 90% certain that I've driven through that neighborhood.

Funny story about when Dateline shot this in Long Beach--My cousin works for the city in whatever department oversees parking enforcement. You know what this sort of reminded me of? Those Necroscope books that you turned me on to a few years back. The vampires weren't out in the open like they are here, but this first episode did something equally interesting with the genre, without making it silly. I always thought HBO would have been a great place to do a Hellblazer series or something like Angel, but I think this will do nicely. With some editing, of course.

Re: The Mechapixel Podcast Fiasco

Here's the feed for IDYP:
http://idyp.libsyn.com/rss

and the one for the MPF:
http://mechapixel.libsyn.co...

drop that shit in your iTunes, son.

Re: A Day in the Life - New HBO Series: True Blood

I don't know where this whole psychic thing ("I'M NOT PSYCHIC!") is going, but whatever. I agree with your take on what seems like a paper-thin third act. I didn't buy that whole exchange between Sookie and Bill toward the end. I get that he's supposed to be kind of a stock post-Stoker Vampire--you know. Pale, mysterious, misunderstood. Maybe not completely evil. It's just that he doesn't seem to be putting a whole lot of stock in making anyone feel better about his heritage (despite that whole bit about acutally caring about what people think about him).

I also didn't buy that bit at the end--Sam comes out and offers to stick around while Sookie waits for Bill. I thought he was getting into a car, but it turns out he lives right behind the diner. Now, you know what happens. The thing that bothers me is this: He lives in a mobile home behind his diner. That's A). B) It's obvious he cares a great deal about his friend and employee, who is about to meet with a vampire, and C) Sam clearly doesn't trust Bill. Now if B is true, and C is true, I would think he'd at least be keeping an eye out, at least to make sure she's okay. I would think that most normal people would keep watch just to see what's going to happen anyway. My issue is with A. He's right nearby, and he doesn't hear what's going on? He just went into his home, which is out in the middle of nowhere, by a dirt road. I live in a large city right on a major street, near the intersection of another major street. In the middle of the night, you can still hear a great deal. For example--at night, I can hear foghorns at the port, which is a pretty significant distance away from where I am. I can also sometimes hear the bell when a train pulls into the nearest Metro station, which is about half a mile away or better. I've heard someone actually getting beaten up about 3/4 of a block away, so I'm very surprised that Sam didn't seem to hear anything.

I don't know--the next episode might actually begin with Sam coming out to see what the ruckus is, just in time to save Sookie from her attackers. So I might be completely out of order. You know what would be awesome? If they kept that opening sequence.

Re: A Day in the Life - Listen to Brian Wilson's new album in its entirety

I do not expect this to top Smile.
