I'm familiar with Lott's research and writings, as he is one of the foremost experts on the subject of the Second Amendment, and the rights of the citizens to possess firearms. Those who despise the idea that the law-abiding citizen has a right to own a gun, come up with absurd reasons for their positions - they refuse to acknowledge that murders are going to take place regardless of what's banned. Ban guns, people will still be murdered by knives, poisons, baseball bats, cars, bow & arrows, etc., etc. It is an absolute fact that guns for self-defense had reduced murders, rapes, and physical assaults of all kinds - When someone is attacked by a thug, we are told that's what the police are for - call the police ! That's fine, except by the time the cops respond, the event has occurred - the attack has happened. Police involvement is an after-the-fact event. The police can't be everywhere at all times ! A hand gun will make the difference between horror and safety !
