Unusually long post, it was the first time I had to bookmark it on Instapaper and read it while commuting ;)

It seems we are on the same (web)page, I found myself loathing fiddling with configuration files, this is why I swore years ago to not put linux on a notebook anymore, but the story should have its own post.

This summer was spent perusing my iphone the same way you used your iPod, as a terminal for my digital life, more a tricorder than ever, my actual desktop setup is a linux box (for compatiblity issues) and my old faithful iBook G4. I started considering upgrading my apple gear to something more x86ish, if not because I'm tired of tinkering with hacks to run the iPhone SDK and other compilers.
Until your post I was still considering a notebook, but now I'm pretty sure I'll go for a desktop with, finally, big screen real estate and whenever I'd need a terminal I'll use my G4.
now if I only could afford that 8 cores ;)

unfortunately having not upgraed to 10.5.3 mine experience with DL is not stellar, yet

Hi Rui,
I'm dropping by for just a quick comment since I'm heading to the shores ;)
I've to admit pfig knows what to suggest, but if it's too much, why not give a glance to the Ricoh GX100 ?
I don't have it, mind you, but I've read about it on Tim Bray's blog and since then wrote it down as the one I'll buy if need to replace my compact.

Shoots great macro, has its own quirks, obviously,but it seems it feels really good.
Kid permitted, go trough some of his pictures, because the real review is a year long.

anyway, feels odd to recommend smth I don't have, though.

just a thought about Nokia: you said they easily top the iPhone sales, but I think it's remarkable Apple had only one model, Nokia a whole range, or do I miss something?

Obviously you are in the market so I trust your judgment more than mine ;)

Both interesting the 2 grey boxes, I'm not sure if I'll go for the time capsule since now I just signed for Amazon S3 for my offline storage (and low traffic, like photos, ripped cds and similar) and my only mac has filevault therefore I just use a "superduped" firewire disk :)
