The only problem I have with professional networking online today is that for the most part al the major platforms (linkedin and xing) foster development around already made contacts. Its true that none of us really care to have as big a list of contacts if possible if we dont know anyone in that list, but it would help if there was an actual platform that fostered growth with people we DIDNT already know (the true sense of networking). And that, my friends, Linkedin does not do too well!

This was a wonderful hadith you shared:

"When the Prophet (S) told the people that Allah (SWT) has written all the destinies, they asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Should we give up striving and leave it all to destiny?" He said, "No, keep striving, because whatever a person is created for will be made easy for him. If he is one of the people of happiness (Paradise), it will be easy for him to the deeds of happiness, and if he is one of the people of misery (Hell), it will be easy for him to do the deeds of misery."

interesting hadith, but when the respected al Dido al-Shanqiti says:

"However, the one who engages in such acts is not a disbeliever. This is because whoever dies and bears witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah will not stay in the fire eternally..."

it makes me a little concerned, because I thought Islam was different from Christianity, and other religions, in that it stresses PRACTICE. I thought in Islam, it is practice that will land you in heaven, and keep you away from the fire. I mean I understand the importance of Tawhid, but when it is said that no matter what you do, if you believe in God, you will one day be in heaven, does that not take away from the importance of one of the most important elements in Islam- practice?

MR i wouldnt go as far as painting the picture black and white...I think a lot of the Muslims in the west could relate to the following point of view, expressed by Tariq Ramadan (may God grant him mercy):

"The best way to push Barack Obama to face up to his responsibility in America, in the Middle East or elsewhere is for Muslims to start by facing up to their own without blindly demonizing America or the West or naively idealizing a charismatic African-American US President." -Tariq Ramadan

...neither demonize the west nor idealize a man based on his gracefulness and elegance with words...

I am really happy to hear this is happening. Tariq Ramadan is such a great voice and figure for Islam. I just wanted to add one thing that may help further clarify any misunderstanding there is about this subject. When Tariq Ramadan donated money to Hamas, it was before Hamas was actually considered a terrorist organization by the US. So this would disqualify Tariq Ramadan from any such accusation.

It was clearly out of fear of Tariq Ramdan's powerful influence on the Muslim youth and the Intellectual arena that drove the Bush Administration to do what it did. The US is not the only country that has put Tariq Ramadan on a "terrorist list" though. When a man of his caliber and intelligence stands up for the cause of Islam, many governments become fearful of their presence. May God direct us all on the right path.

Mashallah, this is a great article and it comes at a great time. The other day a friend of mine told me that he dosent force his kids to pray all 5 prayers because Allah understands their busy lives, and that Allah is Rahman, Rahim. Allah is most understanding. This of course is true, but as the author stated in this article it seems we are "setting the bar lower" and bring down our standards and compromising our convictions. This is the source of many of our problems.
