Dear Michael,

I would love to know more on your ranking on PoliScie departments in Spain. I followed the El Mundo journal ranking 2012 --but of course, a daily newspaper might not be the most reliable source.

It would also be useful to know what variables you are meassuring... and, are we making a cross comparision with the Kennedy School at Harvard measuring variables?

However, I am honoured by your interest in my modest post, your reading and comment on it. It is work in progress yet, as I will keep elaborating on international consequences of current geopolitical and economic global changes.

Internet ofrece oportunidades insospechadas, como bien dijisteis Olga
y Francisco en la Tertulia Fullbright.

El surgimiento del crowfunding, el alcance
incluso excesivo de los motores de búsqueda de información, la
democratización de ésta, etc., son algunas de las impresionantes
aportaciones de Internet.

Ahora bien, ¿quién los audita y protege de los
poderosos...?

Son tan susceptibles de chantaje, intimidación, compra,
manipulación, sesgo, egoísmo, crímenes, etc., como las actuales
instituciones y canales de información.

...Y la sociedad ya no los recibe con la misma inocencia e
ingenuidad que a sus antecesores tecnológicos.

De hecho, los resultados de la Encuesta Edelman de Confianza en las
Instituciones 2012, arrojan mínimos históricos en la
práctica totalidad de países e instituciones estudiados,
al punto de obstruir en alto grado su operabilidad y futuro. O
–como dijo Olga–, no gestionamos ya la confianza, sino la
desconfianza.

No hay manera de construir una Sociedad Digital sólida
y perdurable, si no se restaura realmente la confianza.

Y no hay manera de restaurar la confianza de la mayor parte de la
sociedad en los medios e instituciones (on & off
line), si no se asume hasta sus últimas consecuencias un
código de valores...

Esto es claro. El problema está en que los valores que podrían
vertebrar perdurable y productivamente la nueva sociedad, no son los
de la agenda política vigente, sino los mayoritarios de cada
sociedad en la que queramos operar... –los que ella siente como
propios–.

Éste es el verdadero reto.

Internet offers brand-new opportunities to us, as you – Olga and
Francisco, very well explained at the Fullbright
Association gathering.

The birth of crowfunding, the astounding (even excessive) reach of
search engines, the democratization of information, etc., are some
of Internet's most impressive contributions to humankind.

However, who audits them and protects them from those
in power...?

They are vulnerable to blackmail, intimidation, money, manipulation,
bias, egoism, crime, etc., just like our present institutions and
channels of information.

...Plus: People are no longer as naîve –as gullible and
unsuspicious, as they were when Internet's technological
predecessors were born and grew.

As a matter of fact, the Edelman Trust World Survey 2012's
Conclusions confirm that society's trust in its
institutions has reached historic lows –so low that their
maneuvrability and survival are clearly at stake. Or –as Olga put
it: We no longer manage trust, but distrust.

There is no way to build a sound and long-lasting
Digital Society, if trust is not solidly
restablished.

And there is no way to restore trust, if the majority of media and
institutions (both on & off line), does not
embrace a value code fully, together with everything it entails...

This is pristine clear. The problem is elsewhere: The values that
might vertebrate –structure, offer strength and depth, to the new
society, are not those currently in the agenda.

The only ones that can offer this perdurability and social cohesion,
are those which a majority considers their own
in a given society.

This is the ultimate challenge.

Gracias por tu visión como profesional de la enseñanza -me interesa!. Y además es una visión muy cualificada: te has convertido en unos meses en líder en redes sociales en Baleares. Desde la península te seguimos y leemos. Me ha parecido buena idea preparar el post a modo de check list, de modo que en proyectos con empresas o instituciones se les pueda avisar por anticipado de en qué condiciones los resultados son los mejores. Creo que complementa muy bien a aquellos que defienden que las empresas deben estar en las redes sociales. Trato de aportar algunas claves sobre el porqué.

Muchas gracias por tus comentarios, Javier. Recuerda siempre relacionar lo aprendido con el futuro de la profesion. Como apunta Jeremy Riffkin, estamos vislumbrando un cambio que puede ser radical. Riffkin habla incluso de tercera revolucion industrial, y nuestro curso ha introducido elementos que estan siendo basicos en ese cambio. Espero noticias de todos los alumnos del curso en el futuro contandonos innovaciones que se incorporan y apuntan en este sentido.
