This is the last stronghold where the Taliban can process their opium in safety, which funds terrorist actions against the United States. They have lost over a dozen men in this attempt to take away the financial means to attack the United States. These Marines are not thinking of politics, oil, holding their ground, or "territorial integrity". They are trying to keep terrorist from killing U.S. citizens on our soil. Notice President Obama is not pulling those troops out of that area or country. He knows the importance of these missions to the safety of our citizens.

Re: Our Lost Loved Ones

I don't know what or where the "sun of reality is", however God's Word tells us we will once again see our departed loved ones who knew Christ as their Lord and Savior.
"Many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 8:11). "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord" (1 Thess. 4:17). We will be reunited not only with our own families and loved ones, but also with the people of God from all ages. In heaven we will all be one loving family. The immense size of the family will not matter in the infinite perfection of heaven. There will be ample opportunity for close relationships with everyone, and our eternity will be spent in just that kind of rich, unending fellowship. Is it any wonder that the psalmist said, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints" (Ps. 116:15)?

(Adapted from John MacArthur, The Glory of Heaven )

Re: Was Moses America's prophet… or did he even exist?

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book". [Rev. 22:18-19] I know you have faith in the historical-critical method, but I'm going to have to go with the information about Moses as written in the scriptures. If the the historical-critical method is right, I have nothing to lose, but as you know from the above scripture, if the H-C is wrong............I'm not a brave gambler.

Re: Old trees, new trees

Borrowing the quote, "I feel your pain", I share your distress. We came home one day to find our beautiful and healthy maple tree almost vertically cut in half. The tree was to have only lost a few branches to protect power lines, however there was a lack of communication between the power company and the tree trimmers. This type of change, like many now days, is hard to accept. Anger was replaced by sadness. I share your awe of these maginificent trees created by God. If you get a chance, visit the Sequoia National Park in CA. If you have youngsters with you, be prepared to give them money to go buy candy and a toy so you can stand uninterrupted at the base of one of those giants and just stare upward with eyes and mouth wide open. http://www.wildnatureimages...

Re: The Great Flood

Ed, I know we've been through this discussion of the biblical accounts of history compared to the historical-critical method before, and I intently began reading your information until I remembered this:

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." As stated by Pastor John MacArthur, "these are not the first such warnings about tampering with the scriptures. These warnings against altering the biblical text represent the close of the NT canon. Anyone who tampers with the truth by attempting to falsify, mitigate, alter, or misinterpret it will incur the judgments described in these verses." Ed, to use an allegory from the game of Euchre, I don't like to make trump without the "right bauer" in my hand. And to me, the bible, as is, is the unbeatable, "right bauer".

Re: First Film Festival: Outsider weighing in

If reopened by another owner, I would rejoice in the State Theater. Our government and courts say that a woman has the right to "choose" to kill an unborn baby, however, once that baby is born, most states (except Michigan), strongly oppose a woman's right to "choose" to educate that child at home. With prodding by the NEA, some parents have been hauled off to jail for "choosing" to educate their children at home. The saying "Common sense is so uncommon" would apply here.

Re: Ask

God's Word is a great source to obtain answers, meaning, peace, and lasting happiness, as well as wisdom.

Re: Get your tickets to the Gladiat… oops, Sotomayor's confirmation hearings!

Judge Sotomayor had a "cake walk" compared to the confirmation hearings for judge Robert Bork and
"character assassination" hearings for judge Clarence Thomas.

Re: The White Balloon

Ed,
We used to release a balloon on our daughter's birthday when our other children were younger, hoping somehow it made her smile in heaven. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." Prompt, attentive, polite, ready to learn, and not giving rediculous reasons why they are unable to attend class, then wondering why they earned an "F" for the course. Women who feel they are not respected at church are attending the wrong church. Women who are sexually abused by men who attend church are definately at the wrong church. Besides, that was a slanderous accusation made against Christian men not based on fact. I, as a male Christian, resent that accusation. I have not read or heard of any statistics or reliable study proving that Christian men sexually abuse women at a higher rate than non-Christian men. As for all the scripture citations, I will not debate theology with you, which would be a waste of time. You could read about the issue here: http://www.monergism.com/di... However, I think you will not, but that's O.K. You are free to believe as you wish, and to wrestle the scruptures with God, who is a much more knowledgeable theologian than I. I wish you well with that discussion.

Re: Not a prayer

Back to the other discussion about public school teachers,, state, and federal employees working on Christmas, I say let's do it. We can't be respectors of religions as public servants. Everyone back to work on Good Friday, Christmas & Easter! (Including our President & Congress.) Of course, that would include any Muslim, Jewish, or any other religious holidays.

Re: Not a prayer

Good response, now you know why God sacrificed his Son for us, because we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. All of us are hypocrites in one way or another, and no matter how hard we try, we ALL fail. Yes, we home schooled our kids, even the ones that began college in their junior years of high school.. One of the reasons we home schooled them is because they could get twice the amount of work done in half the time it takes students in public school do complete the same amount of work. No, they weren't sheltered, participating in many community activities such as American Legion Baseball, Girl's softball, Kiwanis projects, Habitat for Humanity builds, and various other community projects. You appear to have your ideas about people who home school set in your mind and nothing will change it. Too bad, you might learn something by being open minded. As for relegating women to a postition lower than men, I would suggest you read those passages again regarding this subject. I am not a bible scholar, however I do know that women are to be loved like Christ loved the church, He died for it. Can't relegate anyone any higher than in that example.

Re: Spirituality

John,
You classify the Bible (scriptures), God's Word, as an "external authority". God tells us that the Word is perfect, sure, wise, right, clear, and enlightens the eyes. It seems to me that the scriptures, God's Word, is a great source of "freedom". As for a baseline of spirituality, I'm not sure what you mean by that comment. However, I teach my family to seek spirituality from the Holy Spirit and the scriptures, not from "the world", since God teaches us not to love the world or the things of the world.

Re: Not a prayer

Not all religious leaders seek to maintain control. Not all religions are compatable, and the bible does not teach that religions will bring peace among nations. Man does not have the capability to bring lasting peace. Fortunately, all these nations, fighting, pain, and sorrow will pass away. God himself will bring the final peace; "Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice form heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new." As for schools and public employees not being scheduled to work on Christmas, they are not scheduled because it has always been a recognized Christian holiday in the U.S. However, since the schools are sterilizing themselves from Christian holidays, they should be open and other public employees should also be at work. I cringe to imagine the consequences if I were to get on a school P.A. and quote a LIVING Christian leader or teacher such as Pastor Chuck Swindoll, Pastor John MacArthur, or Pastor Joseph Stowell, It has become a one-way street in the public schools, and Christianity is viewed as the wrong-way.
