There's freeware that can rip all your info off your iPod and plug it back into iTunes. Just don't be a dumbass and erase your iPod on your new computer. But I'm sure you wouldn't do that.

I think people have a problem with the word 'country' because it has become more associated with the current country & western genre - which, you're exactly right, is pop. But that's kind of like how every modern genre of music on the radio now is the "pop" version of the original, and music categories are determined by marketing tactics.

I do maintain that there's a difference between country and folk, however ignoring country as a tag entirely IS disrespectful to the history of the music. But I have no problem with the "alt" tags either, there are very distinctive alternative-influenced versions of both country and folk, and Americana is a perfectly respectable style... if you're going to start attacking those then you'd have to attack every musical category - some of which are a correct description and some of which are entirely ridiculous.
