Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom to avoid the consequences of your speech. Teachers, coaches, policemen, and politicians are all routinely removed from their positions for bringing those profession into "disrespect". Even sports like soccer, hockey, and football can discipline players and coaches alike for "behavior that brings the sport into disrespect". Get use to it. You cannot be a teacher, policeman, etc. and publicly celebrate an extrajudicial assassination, no matter what side of the political aisle you and the victim were on. This is not a matter of free speech, it is a matter of being unfit to hold office.

Capital gains taxes might be appropriate if gains are inflation adjusted Otherwise capital gains are largely a tax on inflation, which further drives free cash towards short term consumption instead of long term investment. It doesn't matter what political system you have, reduced long term investment is bad for the economy and leads to privation.

The government will never change the fact that if an investment does not return more spending power in the future, so it covers both inflation and a reasonable rate of return, people will tend to spend the money now rather than invest it. Taxing capital gains drives the calculation heavily towards spending the money now rather than investing it.

What a dumb article. Inheritance is not making houses unaffordable; low interest rates, inflation and zoning restrictions are. Those who inherit money are going to buy a house sure, either the same house they would have anyway, or maybe a nicer and bigger one. But after that they spend it on boats, cars, trips, retiring early, and perhaps investments. Maybe a vacation home in a location that doesn't really affect important real estate markets. They don't buy up all the houses and leave them vacant.

It's supply and demand, as it always was. Zoning restriction reduce supply. Low interest rates increase the supply of money and spur demand (and also cause inflation). There are no other significant factors.

Modern warfare has changed in ways we are slow to understand. It started with the birth control pill in the 60's, followed by manufactured drugs that the human body & mind has no resistance to (fentanyl being only the latest and most advanced), and of course postmodernism. Our nuclear weapons provide no defense against these weapons. Just the birth control pill and the resulting societal changes have done more to reduce western populations than the black plague did. Drugs are there to finish off or incapacitate the survivors. And postmodernism keeps the population from seeing what's happening to them or forming a defense, instead chasing imaginary boogiemen.

The price of a Big Mac combo has always been highly correlated to the minimum wage. That's because McDonald's has to pay minimum wage to make the burger, and so do all their suppliers. The money has to come from somewhere. Inflation in food and energy inputs certainly don't help either.

You can either have high wages, or low prices, or make it in China. Those are the only options.

In the discussion forums the geenie-lefties are blaming the problems on hydrocarbon generation. You can mention that the wind went to zero and they reply "that's because there isn't enough of it to cover for the failing fossil fuel generators, we need to build more wind!". Somehow in their mind 95% availability of fossil fuel capacity is worse that 0% of wind capacity. So I've learned that that is how green math works: If the output from "green" energy is 0%, you only need to multiply by infinity to solve the problem. They actually believe that 0 times infinity equals 1, or whatever number you need. Just use more infinities.

The other problem arising from the greenies is that they see the fact that energy demand dropped after the warning as proof that the real problem is overconsumption. All we need to do is turn down our thermostats when it's cold out and the 0% times infinity wind power will be fine, more than enough.

The end result of the green revolution is going to be sitting out cold snaps in a teepee like they did it 500 years ago, only without the fire.

She's just mad that nobody would watch her games. But then she is pretty hard to like as a spokesperson, so she probably chased away the few fans there might have been. I wonder what the students are going to do. Not the ones that are there right now, but next year's freshmen. Seems having a Harvard degree might be a bit of a liability going forward, so I don't know that all the current potential freshmen are going to think it's a good idea to spend $200,000 on a degree that will make you unemployable. Wouldn't that be just funny and just deserts if even the mighty universities can pull a Disney and "go woke go broke". But it's probably too much to ask for. But as many people say, history always seems to follow the most ironic path.

I don't get it. The last study I saw put homosexuals at 1.2% of the adult population (1.6% men, 0.8% women), and I imagine trans people are a much smaller percentage than that. If we say 0.4% are trans, which I think is high, we are looking at 2% total for the alphabet community. Yet they are dominating the conversation in schools and sports! Why? And why are the numbers so much higher in grade school, where the teachers are supposedly allowing the kids to express their "true identity"? What's going to happen when all these kids who have been taught that they are gay (up to 10% of grade schoolers), grow up and find out that they actually aren't?
