The same launch schedules for each platform doesn't really make sense IMO, but perhaps planning on the same cycle and keying that planning off the platform with the most constraints does. For instance, if you decide iOS shouldn't launch at a faster cadence than every 6 weeks barring special situations then maybe everyone plans on the same 6 week cadence, but launches whenever is best (e.g. daily, weekly, whatever).

Re: Elapsed Time: Manager OKRs, Maker OKRs: How I'd Change Google's Goal Setting Process

You might find this interesting: https://www.quora.com/Asana...

Also, you'll be happy to know that Hitchhiker is run with monthly milestone planning and now YouTube is debating doing away with the Google OKRs process altogether and moving to either a monthly or a 6-1-6 schedule within the quarter (6 week sprint, 1 week planning across the whole org and all devices, 6 week sprint). Your spirit lives on...:)

Re: How Much Would Mint Be Worth Now?

I don't think you can make the valuation analogy to companies that have IPO levels of revenue (e.g. Facebook, Zynga, etc.). Mint was likely many years out from an IPO and then waiting would've only lead to a larger acquisition, but my guess is that this is not your argument. You're not trying to say that Mint should've waited for a larger exit right? You're saying they should've built a large independent company? It's just not a fair comparison to take those increased valuations and say that would've been better for Mint. It may have just lead them down a path of more venture investment, ridiculous valuations and fewer options.

I don't know much about Intuit company culture, but I don't think that beating them is necessarily better than joining them. That's a big assumption that you assert as fact. :) Companies like Intuit are killing for new talent. It's a hard hiring market and it's only getting worse. Who knows what sort of position Aaron has at Intuit? Who knows what his level of compensation is and what sorts of goals its tied to? Intuit is the 800lb gorilla in the space and they can do more to change the space in 6 months than most startups can. If you feel like you're in the middle of a revolution, sometimes it's best to be able to influence that revolution from an interesting seat inside the 800lb gorilla.

Re: HTML 5 vs. Native Applications

Ahh c'mon. Surely there are strong arguments against 2 and 3. The same tools that can be used to make a web page look and feel really cool can work on HTML5 enabled mobile browsers. Furthermore, look at all the studies AdMob has published and it's clear that far more money is still made from advertising. Point 4 is right on the money. It's a lot easier to get noticed amongst 100k apps than 6B web pages, both organically and through ad spend.

Re: Some Thoughts On Email After Dealing With 500 Emails

If Gmail changed your life, keyboard shortcuts will be your re-birth.

If you hit '?' in most Google applications (e.g. Gmail, Reader, Calendar, etc.) you'll get an overlay with all of the keyboard shortcuts available.

I've gotten in the habit of taking my hands away from the keyboard as little as possible and it's amazing how much more quickly I get things done.

Re: studio.rizzn == new.media: /blog: #Spymaster: Tips for the Twitter Game

Hit me up with an invite: @noaml

Re: Sean Tice

Sean I love this. Leave the Hulu icon in the next version of Boxee (free advertising, goodwill, bla bla bla). When users click the Hulu button, shutdown Boxee, automatically open up a browser, and bring up Hulu. I'll write an extension that allows me to navigate Hulu with my remote through the browser. Then when I'm done with my one show on Hulu, I hit menu on my remote and Boxee comes back up. Just to show them how ridiculously silly they are.

Re: the Hulu situation

I attempted to post this on the Hulu blog, but I doubt it will be approved:

I'm a huge fan of both Hulu and Boxee. Obviously content is king here and as a consumer I will follow my favorite content, but I must say this is just sad and I'm left angered. This only inspires me to pirate the content so that I can watch it from the convenience of Boxee. I, and many people with me, will begin to do that. Furthermore, the pirated versions of the Hulu content have been stripped of their advertising. While I was very happy to watch Hulu through Boxee and sit through the commercials, it's sad that the content holder's ignorance is now going to encourage people to move towards the pirated versions of this content.

Furthermore, this simply makes no sense. The type of viewer that is sophisticated enough to install Boxee on their MacMini or their AppleTV is certainly sophisticated enough to connect their laptop to their flat screen TV and watch Hulu. My MacMini is connected to my television and basically all your winning here is now I'm forced to quit Boxee occasionally and control my MacMini with a wireless mouse and keyboard to bring up Hulu. You win nothing and all you do is anger one of your fans and customers.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to be very eloquent in this comment or to really drive this home, but as an entrepreneur in the digital media space this is just sad sad sad. Bad business. Terrible understanding of your customers and technology. And just plain stupid.

Re: FooTheBar

Like the song.
