For carry revolvers, the Ruger SP-101 357 Magnum Snub Nose. Anything else is a step down.

For carry auto-loaders, either the Ruger P95 9mm or the Colt M1911-A1. Anything else is selling yourself short.

This is of course my subjective opinion, and not a fact to be followed... But it's really hard to beat a 1911 in reliability. The Ruger P95 9mm is only added along side because it's practically indestructible and has a good magazine capacity. I carry the stainless model. To me, it is basically a cross between a 1911 and a Beretta 92fs. I do like the option of decocking the hammer when on safe with the option of firing the first round in double action as it adds to the safe and reliable function of a firearm, as you can carry it chambered and decocked with the safety on, and when you need it, just pull, flip and fire.

A high powered airsoft revolver snub nose pushing over 500 FPS at 10-5 feet will cause significant injury to a human being if they are not wearing thick enough clothing. It would not likely be fatal. A ead shot with aluminum BBs at point blank to the temple with a Win Gun 708/S CO2 revolver will either critically mame the person or kill them, with the minimum injury being critical brain damage and blood loss. When using metal shot, with proper shot placement, you can deter an offender. I STRONGLY suggest having a real firearm, but for those times when you can't have one, a super high powered concealable and modified air gun is more than effecteive at making a criminal think twice. The risk comes when someone is high on drugs and attacks you. With someone like that, they could easily take 3 9mm Luger rounds to the chest at close range and keep coming at you. Unlike a firearm, where you aim for center mass, with an air gun, you aim for the face as best as possible. Having a sub machine pistol like a Glock 18C airsoft pistol is excellent at taking down an enemy. Just be prepared to run like hell as they fall, because they will get back up. Either way... 40 rounds of ANYTHING at close range fired in under 2 seconds will put anyone down for at least a moment. Just be careful not to harm surrounding innocents. Here is a test to see if your air gun is adequate. Prepare a 5 gallon bucket of ballistics gel and follow the temperature and density specifications. Fire the air gun from the distance you intend to use. If it penetrates through 2 layers of denim and makes it into the gel at least 6 inches, it is lethal. Most air guns can't get through the denim. My air gun is built to go through 4 layers of denim, two undershirts and penetrate at least 6 inches from 15 feet in a 6 shot high powered gas revolver. If they don't drop when you shoot them, use the heavy stainless steel to pistol whip them. If by pulling the replica airgun revolver the enemy stops dead in their tracks, you don't need to pull the trigger, which makes the weapon that much more terrifying. Also, the more noise and pain the machine generates, the better. You want to generate at LEAST 120 decibels from 25 feet to break the pain threshhold and leave them with painful ringing ears and a metal round lodged in their face. Just one thing to add... Before you go carrying an airgun, dress up in layers and allow yourself to be shot with it. It is CRITICAL you know how much pain you are dealing out before you go and use it. With the Win Gun 708 at full 1,200 PSI pressure behind the heavy metal round, you could still seriously injure and even kill someone. However, before you go shooting yourself, do the gel test, as it can answer the penetration question for you. If it penetrates, don't do the pain test. You can skip the pain test if the round penetrates 6 inches or more, as you have the same stopping power as a 25 caliber pistol, which is excellent coming from an air gun.
