Hahaha, touche. Though I still think it could be a marquee game, Baylor won in Austin last year, Robert Griffin returns to QB the Bears and the game is already slotted for ABC. Now how many fans in Waco will actually care enough to demand the Longhorn Network be available to catch the game is questionable. Seeing as they are only 105 miles away from Austin, you would think Waco would be considered a lock to be part of the immediate Longhorn Network footprint.

As a fan, I'd love to see Penn State take on Oklahoma, Texas, USC and Oregon on an annual basis, but I know that's just not going to happen with so many old regional rivals located conveniently by us. But I don't disagree with your sentiment, is our OOC scheduling creative? Definitely not, we are basically recycling our old independent rivals during OOC play, but they DO rotate. If we tack on Pitt, we are essentially playing Pitt and Temple on an annual basis in addition to our Big Ten schedule. The only variety we would be left with would be the last 2 remaining OOC spots which would probably be left to the likes of MAC programs. That number diminishes to just 1 remaining spot when the Big Ten moves to a 9 game conference schedule. So as much as we as fans would love an extended rivalry, it really isn't in Penn State's best interest even if it is possible logistically.

These aren't frivolous threats, the powers-that-be have consistently made their position clear that should the BCS be scrapped, they would rather return to the old bowl system than proceed with a possible playoff. In fact, Jim Delany said exactly that in his response to the Justice Department's letter.

"There's no judge or jury in the world, that can make you enter into an four-team, eight-team or 16-team playoff. I know at the end of the day that we've operated in total good faith. I know that (the postseason) is better than it was... And if it can't go forward, it can't go forward. But I also know that we can't be enjoined, we can't be directed or forced into something we don't think is the right thing for us to do."

Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick's DoJ letter response wasn't that much different.

"If, for some reason, the current model was viewed as unacceptable in antitrust terms, I think there are a number of alternatives available to address it that wouldn't necessarily involve a playoff... Such as something closer to the previous (bowl) system."

I'm cannot deny that the logical postseason format would be a playoff. But since the creation and defense of the BCS, when has logic ruled among the powers-that-be concerning a college football postseason? People mistakenly assume that somehow as fans we are entitled to a playoff. That isn't the true. The 56 years prior to the BCS is proof of that. We forget that the BCS was actually a compromise between the Bowl Alliance and the Big Ten/Pac 10/Rose Bowl to attempt to provide an annual 1 vs 2 game, that rarely occurred due to each conference's bowl tie ins. It was never a step towards giving fans an eventual playoff system. The bowl system, even the minor ones, and their existence are the key here.

Even if the DoJ is successful, they can only force the conferences to abandon the current BCS system. They have no power in deciding how the NCAA should proceed after that, and the conference commissioners have said clearly that they would return to the old bowl tie-ins than proceed with a playoff. Backwards or not, that is the clear position of the people who decide college football's postseason format regardless of fan opinion.

The BCS might be antiquated, it might be a flawed way to select a postseason champion and it is definitely unpopular with the most vocal portion of the fan base, but it doesn't violate anti trust laws. And the DoJ is just using a popular issue to pander to the people.

Wow, at last count. Yahoo! Sports investigative team is now 2 for 3 with the Oregon accusations pending. I'd say that's a pretty legitimate track record. USC and Ohio State accusations proved to be stunningly accurate.

Oh I'm sure the ratings were influenced by Meyers impending retirement, but how do you explain Penn State also topping last year's bowl ratings when they played in the Capital One Bowl, or in the years prior to that. Or that bobby bowdens final bowl game failed to make a ratings blip last year when slotted against Penn State in the Capital One Bowl? Penn State is perenially one of the top television draws regardless of bowl or opponent and this years numbers further reflects that. There's a reason why bowls would not hesitate to jump on an available Penn State team when it comes to bowl selection time.

It's just surprising how the NCAA has not stepped in to do away with what is essentially a loopholes that some programs have been abusing. It simply amounts to an egregious breach of trust between a school/coach and 18-24 year old student athletes. Even in my interview early this past season with one of the contributors at Roll 'Bama Roll, I was taken back by how unapologetically vocal he was about Alabama/Nick Saban's practice of oversigning. A sentiment I'm sure is shared by many in the SEC.

Though I can't fault Bolden for choosing what he thought was best for himself and his pro aspirations, I am a little stunned he did not decide to compete for the starting spot this offseason. He's got a great shot at taking over the starting role next season following the Outback Bowl disaster and Joe publicly second guessing himself for not replacing McGloin and has plenty of experience under his belt to expand the playbook. Highly disappointing.

You're absolutely right, there are plenty of other options, but when the Big Ten originally came up with their current logo, the graphic designer also created alternate ones with the numbers in the negative space all the way up to 16. It's not hard to assume that was the track the Big Ten was on and it was only doomed to the same failure that the Pac 10/12 logo will soon in a couple months and whenever the next league shift occurs.

But instead we got a brand new design and if this is considered the worst that we will see from the Big Ten, I can definitely live with it. Though I agree there are plenty of other options out there. Check this one out http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_O...

I can't think of a more frivolous reason to be upset than maybe that "White Out T shirt looks like a cross" fiasco. Was the joke in bad taste? Yes. But was it prefaced with the joke #MDHateWeek tag? Yes. To blow this out of proportion is a reach and although I personally wouldn't have said it, I am by no means outraged and shamed by it like the Michigan couple incident.

Well put Devon. The anti-Joe rhetoric following this loss is ridiculous. Somehow losing to a favored Iowa team on the road suddenly means Joe no longer knows how to coach against and upset higher ranked teams? That we are doomed to mediocrity? Didn't we just upset a higher ranked LSU on New Year's Day? How about that win which temporarily ended our futility at the Horseshoe in 2008. Sure a loss is always tough to swallow, but let's keep things in perspective here. Just take a look at Georgia for an example of how a rebuilding year can really go wrong, take a deep breath and remember that we are still Penn State.
