Now on to your points, 1. why would you presume that I couldn't relate to the issue of gross privacy breach of common people in hotels and the double-standards taken by our supposedly just system? It shook me up to think that it might happen to me some day when I am with my wife staying in a hotel. I don't carry around my marriage certificate with me everywhere. Just because I didn't comment on it, and did on a rather different aspect of the news item, doesn't mean I am not aware of it. So, stop judging people.
2. I didn't blame the kids, merely pointed out that if these kids were someday involved in something criminal, fining them with a measly 1200 bucks is not going to make any difference, because.. do I really have to explain?

Totally upto you how you want to worship. Personally I don't agree with the cross and the whole crucified jesus statue and all either. I don't agree with the sacrifices of living (human or animal) either. If god is everywhere, why need all these mediums? But, as I said, to each their own.

Actually I have read the bible (had too much free time one day during my stay in the US), not sure which version. I'll try and get my hands on more books when I have free time.

Now to borrow your tone, did I ever mock your religion (I'm a Hindu too, so technically our religion)? Did I use derogatory terms to Hindu gods or even refer to them in any of my posts?

I personally don't agree with idol-worship, but I believe everyone is (or more like should be) free to do anything in the name of religion, as long as they don't step on others' rights.

No one in the world, not even the Indian government wants to associate itself with anything even remotely talibani (feeling embarrassed that I don't know what the best adjective for the word taliban is). But it's the mentality behind the decisions that is in question here. The mentality of control on private lives of people.

If really some beauraucrats were behind this, then it's even because then it's the educated people (as opposed to the mostly uneducated ministers/MPs) that want to impose such restrictions on personal freedom. Though I'd not be surprised.

I don't agree with corruption being tolerable. I mean have you forgotten what UPA-2 did? They almost brought this nation's economy to its knees.

Last thing, I like how you censored the word porn by using 88.

I was talking about the u-turn taken by the above commentator, not that of the government. I'm in favor of the government's u-turn.
Talking about u-turns in general, you have put so many ifs. So, taking it from there, if the governments did it for any of those reasons, I'd support it, but governments or even big organizations generally do it to save their interests, rather than for greater good. That's why they are generally criticized for it.

Just because something has been there for thousands of years, doesn't mean it's good or it should be respected for another thousand years. One's ideas of what is and what should be should adapt to times and others. If things were to be done your way, we wouldn't have science, we would still have the sati-pratha, and democracy would have been a fool's idea, because you would have wanted Ram's or Krishna's descendants to rule over you.

If you haven't realized it, a lot has changed in the last 1000 years. It's not home to just hindus anymore, but all the religions of the world are welcome here and anyone born in India is just as Indian as you are. If you can't accept it, then that's where the problem lies.

Obviously you can't impose anything physical on me. It's your mentality that you are trying to impose on others. You don't need to lecture me on Indian culture, as I said above, I am just as Indian as you are and I'm well aware of it.
There is nothing wrong in borrowing things from other cultures, especially if they are good things and can help us progress.

Stalling all progress and not moving forward with the world is not the best way to tackle the softpower problem. But I don't think simpletons would understand it.

To all those saying what a great decision by the government, are you all so gullible or just naive?
The easiest way to fix a problem is to create one (a manageable one) yourself. That's what governments do all the time.

Think about it, there was no need for a blanket ban on porn websites in the first place. The Supreme court rejected the idea because it was plain draconian. There was no study or evidence in favor of this decision. In fact, most studies point to the contrary (that porn helps suppress sexual frustrations of the youth). If the government wanted a crack-down on child pornography, it should have done its research and got the courts to issue order, and then may be brought a legislature. If it was targeted at curbing sexual assaults against women, I don't know what world they are living in. Also, the fact that this was done completely behind close doors (yes, the government implemented it unofficially, but then had to officially announce it after the public outrage), says a lot about the government's motives. It thinks it can control the thoughts and lives of people, and it's getting there one step at a time. But it backfired, as the government didn't realize it'd get so much backlash, especially from celebs and media. So, even though partially, they have lifted the ban, to emerge the heroes (who actually created the problem knowingly in the first place), I am not convinced a bit that banning the social media might be next on cards. To top it all, (I don't know if they have done it yet, but I'm sure), Mr. Modi will be declared the saviour who influenced the lifting of this ban.

Before the bhakts start, I still think we are safer in hands of this government than UPA-3. They would have just looted/corrupted the country to bankruptcy.

To all those professing how porn is against the hindu culture, stop pushing your centuries old mindset on others, especially on people of other religions and the younger generations.
