That's a great point Emery, as developers did this to ourselves. From another perspective though, it would have been very difficult for the web to grow as fast as it did without opening things up and making it free and accessible.

I tried the 3DS the other day, and I thought it was super cool. But it's not even about the 3D. It's what Nintendo represents - well thought out games, worlds and narratives. To me it's like comparing a movie to a commercial. Apps today are just short bursts of fun that hold your attention for 30 seconds at a time.

I think you'd have a ton of fun with it. Without even knowing any hardware stuff, there's still a lot of cool things you could build with just code and LEDs. The greatest bit is that it's a huge open community, so there is a lot of references out there.

I didn't buy a kit. I just went to Creatron on College and picked up

1. Arduino
2. LEDs
3. USB connector to my computer

I just got the email stuff working, trying to make a fancy little lampshade for it :)

The great part about Heavy Rain, is that it's short! It felt like only 8 hours long!

Yeah I both agree and disagree with Tim Ferriss on this one. Good software takes time, however I think there is definitely a direct relationship between time and new features (especially when you throw non-programmers in the room) :)

As for evidence of this being true, a software engineering Prof at UT was saying that there was actually a study to prove this. They took a bunch of developers (probably undergrads), and broke them into two groups. They were both given the same exact set of requirements except for the deadline (2 weeks vs. 4 months). The result was that the 2-week group produced equivalent code, but finished closer to a month I think whereas the control group finished in about 3 months.

Mind you, there are a probably a lot of other factors here. How do you define quality of code, what about work/life balance, etc...
