NO ONE pays for the treatment of renal patient in India. Transplants are financial impossibility for 90% of all ESRD in India. Nobody understands the importance of renal disease PREVENTION. NSAIDS are the 2nd largest selling medicines (Diclofenac) after cough syrup in India.
But, never mind the problems which are insurmountable, Nephrology ROX!!

Not only is the study of Nephrology fascinating, but the application of the same to practice, to delay ( i agree "delay", but then who would not want to live for one more day???) the progression is challenging and rewarding.
Eagerly reading journals for that new something which will DELAY the progression, again the anticipation of something new is infectious.
Sitting on a quiet evening thinking what you can do for PREVENTION and coming on a brilliant idea on how to educate doctors and patients about CKD and prevention in your own local area - again something that would be rewarding in the long run.
Nephrology is just like LIFE, the approach is more than anything else. and PATIENCE pays.
I beleive it is very satisfying.
Most importantly, you can atleast give your patient HOPE.
I know a lot of Nephrology in India rides on luck, hope, happiness, desperation but nonetheless Nephrology works and i am sure it is just a matter of time before the scene here improves.
Till then.....
