If you set that to your welcome page, then new visitors will land on that page but returning visitors will go directly to your wall. I hope that helps! We'd have to abide by Facebook rules. With nearly 9000 fans we certainly don't want to give Facebook a reason to delete our page, but I do like the idea of a challenge of some kind. All comps need to be run through third party apps (such as our blog and iframes) rather than directly on FB pages. Many businesses break the rules and we all find them confusing. You can find out more about FB comp rules in this great article here: http://www.simplyzesty.com/.... Are you talking about PDF? If it is, then you just link to wherever you've uploaded the document using a hyperlink on your fangate page. With the fangate page, it should show up for the user once the user has refreshed the screen. Liking your page should automatically refresh the page and take them to whichever page you have nominated as the landing page for people who "like" your site. Which welcome page software are you using? I hope that is helpful. i would recommend asking questions like this on our forum, which we've just relaunched. We can then shoot the question through to Facebook for others share their knowledge on as well. We have a lot of very savvy WAHPs on Support a WAHP. All the best, Cas.

Re: Top 7 Reasons Blogs Fail and What to Do About It

My blogs rock along okay for the most part, but even with the content that results in lots of comments and hits, it still doesn't get shared around as much as I'd like. I have asked our FB followers what they'd like us to write about though, and I think that has helped us gain some clarity about what small home-based businesses need info on. But it's such a diverse bunch of businesses, it's really hard to know sometimes. Anyway, thanks for the post Michael.

Re: Roadtesting Facebook’s new welcome page platform: iwipa

The short answer is "yes" but you'll probably need to spend a little time watching the tutorial videos. The IWIPA framework is for landing pages on your Facebook business page, ie the fist page that someone lands on when they click on the link to your page. There are some other frameworks available now. I will do an update in the near future. All the best with it! cheers, Cas.

Re: Beware the Facebook spam police

You're welcome Elaine, and thanks for notifying us. I thought it was educational for people to understand. We welcome business shoutouts on our page but have strict posting guidelines. However on my own business page I don't allow it at all unless someone's asked me first, as it's just not appropriate to the page. Really, people don't do themselves any favors by posting on other business pages unless the page is designed for that, which the Support a WAHP page is.

Re: Beware the Facebook spam police

I agree! As our business runs a lot of contests and sweepstakes, these are really helpful. It would be really great to have an article on running charity auctions on Facebook. There has been a lot of confusion and angst about breaking Facebook rules of late given the crackdown on posting on others' pages. Small businesses would like to be assured their generosity won't see them suspended on Facebook. You just need to make sure you have good internet access wherever you are. A 3g sim card from Telstra is probably the best bet. I looked into mobile eftpos and the fees were astronomical. I use the ipad for all sorts of things so it has worked out a more flexible option. Nowadays you can even create bar codes to scan your products so that you can email an invoice to your customers from your ipad or iphone. Businesses need to realise that putting all their eggs in one basket does not a profit make. With my small business, I started small and grew naturally and now have nearly 800 likers, quite a few of whom are also customers and clients. I have rarely posted on someone else's wall and only when I had something of substance to share. It does pay off to take the slow and steady but that doesn't mean you can't be doing other things to grow your business. All the best! cheers, Cas.

Re: 4 Tips for Effective Facebook Community Management

It's all well and good hiring a community manager if you have the funds to employ people but for small and micro businesses that can be one thing on a long list of tasks you'd like to outsource. Then there's the issue of any page admin being able to delete your page. You'd need to have iron-clad contracts to ensure that doesn't happen and even then, it could (in theory). Again, hiring a lawyer to draft something like that is on a long list of tasks to outsource for small businesses. Thanks for the article though. As a community manager/owner I appreciate the validation. Aside from that, we really want our business to grow because we work from sun-up to midnight, any spare moment of the day, in between parenting young children, grocery shopping, taking kids to sports and theatre classes, cleaning, going to the gym, attending networking events and staring vacantly at the TV (actually, that last one virtually never happens). We are passionate about supporting other home-based businesses and practice what we preach by buying from our fanbase on a regular basis. With all our commitments, we'd never make it to the airport, let alone on a plane to the US to attend a conference like this IRL, so we'd really love to win two tickets to attend this fantastic virtual event.
