There is more promise and fulfillment clinging to God than Big Government.

Whatever Paul Ryan says, is fine with me. He talks the talk. and walks the walk! I think everyone had just about enough of the Hope and Change that other guy preached. Full speed ahead, R & R, you have my full backing!

Brave Feather • 11 years ago

I work as a service writer at a motorcycle shop R&R means Remove and Replace. Sounds good to me.
Peace be with you.

Wow, I guess i'm happy to cling to my guns and religion too. Just happen to be cleaning my gun (after spending the afternoon at the range with my daughter) while I read this article. Right next to my open gun cleaning kit is my Bible, open to Psalms, which I was reading earlier today with my son. I must be some kinda right-wing-nutcase I guess?

Bill Schu • 11 years ago

Yep that's what the progressives call us!

DavidN • 11 years ago

The difference between you and Paulie, is that Paulie realizes it.

20/20 • 11 years ago

I think Bill knows he is; the Right is self-aware at the least.

DavidN • 11 years ago

In some cases yes. In others....not so much.

20/20 • 11 years ago

Lol, I can't see how you can be a right or left-winger and not be aware of it in this highly-polarized environment. I hope for everyone sake's that you exaggerating, but who can say.....

DavidN • 11 years ago

I wasn't so much referring to the right-wing portion as the nutcase portion.

Bill Schu • 11 years ago

No he's not kidding because I beat him up pretty good the last couple of days so he'd mad at me! But I can deal with it but apparently he can't.

DavidN • 11 years ago

Morning Bill. No, you didn't beat me up pretty good the last couple of days, and no, I'm not mad at you.

Bill Schu • 11 years ago

I guess I'll have to take your word for not being mad at me.

Bill Schu • 11 years ago

You haven't looked in the mirror lately have you!

DavidN • 11 years ago

At my age, and weight, I avoid that as much as possible.

Bill Schu • 11 years ago

You do have a point there ;-)

Eddie • 11 years ago

God also gives us comon sense about keeping our guns & Savior Christ Jesus.

etexfisherman48 • 11 years ago

Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. The fact is the 2nd amendment was put into the law so citizens could protect themselves from a tyrannical government.

squeeze127 • 11 years ago

I wonder why the government is buying all those hollow point ammo??

Bill Schu • 11 years ago

For the same reason we should be doing so!

Carl Gary Brown • 11 years ago

And if there are two things that go together, it's guns and religion.

Rob F. • 11 years ago

...it worked for the founding Fathers of this nation; that’s good enuff for me...

Brave Feather • 11 years ago

Praise the Lord and pass the ammo.
Peace be with you.

...or: Distortions and Democrats ;-)

20/20 • 11 years ago

Yeah, because people who go to church just want to shoot everyone (sarcasm). Can't you see the illogical premise of your post? Whatever happened to not blanket-labeling people?

(I know I'm feeding the troll, but couldn't help responding this round :( )

oldbiker45 • 11 years ago

The Jews in WWII clung to their religion and gave up their guns. As a Christian I have no desire to go out and "shoot everyone" but I do have a desire to protect my family and friends from a government that is out of control. Obama would love to be the next dictator. After all he is so much smarter than the rest of us who didn't get to be community organizers. [Sarcasum intended].

justinwachin • 11 years ago

I don't have a gun but I'm happy to cling to Christianity. I remember the statement. I trust God more than I will ever trust Mr. Obama.

Ryan is totally qualified to be a candidate, being he is a natural born citizen of the United States.

C Spear • 11 years ago

You go Paul Ryan!!! Stand up for your beliefs and your rights. I'm with you on that…and glad someone has the guts to say what he really believes.

Ken • 11 years ago

My dad was a Republican all his life. Now that he is deceased, he votes Democratic.

literalistic • 11 years ago

Obama, is also trying to get votes from illegal immigrants which is totally unconstitutional, when he gave work permits to millions of illegal immigrants without Congressional Approval, " Congress shall have Power to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, " Article 1, Section 8, Clause 1 & 4 of the United States Constitution.

Judi • 11 years ago

Why should you be surprised at anything Obama is doing? Clinton released many convicts right before his election, so they would vote for him --- and unless things have changed from when I was in school --- I was taught that convicted folks lost their right to vote????? When these men stand up there and swear on the Bible that they will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, and then do some of the illegal, underhanded, deceitful, shameful things they do after (probably before too) they obtain the highest office in the land --- its no wonder we are becoming the weakest nation.

just me • 11 years ago

I think Ryan is a great choice, but on one issue he scares me. When he wants to turn the medical things like Medicare over to private insurance the ONLY ones that win are the insurance companies and the congressmen that vote it in. Plugging the loopholes and fraud in Medicare is a priority, not selling out to insurance companies - oh and by the way - I work for a health insurance company so yes I do know what I'm talking about. This issue could keep O'bummer in the house and that is too scary to even think about.

If the United States didn't have a democratic party, Former Marine Brian Terry would still be alive.

literalistic • 11 years ago

In 2005, the House & Senate passed, & President George W. Bush signed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. The Act declared, " The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the rights of individuals, including those who are not members of a militia or engaged in military service or training, to keep and bear arms....".

A Tired Conservative • 11 years ago

While I do not like Obama in the least - I do have to question Ryan -- I mean he espouses Ayn Rand's philosophic ideas... which she was a ultra-capitalistic, pro-choice, atheist. He required has his staff read her novels.

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute." - Ayn Rand

So I am not sure where he really stands..... this is far from Christianity in all sense.

ConservativeAmerican • 11 years ago

Before you take the lib smear attacks as truth do some research.
.......If Mr. Ryan becomes the next vice president, it wouldn’t be her[Ayn Rand] dream come true, but her[Ayn Rand] nightmare." New York Times (not exactly a conservative resource)
"[But] earlier this year [he said] “I reject her philosophy. … It’s an atheist philosophy. …give me Thomas Aquinas. … Don’t give me Ayn Rand.”
As to were he stands he is the polar opposite of obama!! enough said

Progressive Patriot • 11 years ago

Were he not an anti-gay, anti-abortion social conservative who favored more respectful, tolerant, pluralistic libertarian positions, his appeal might be far broader. Many in the nation are tired of being subjugated by the religionist hordes and deprived of individual freedoms.

Were he to adopt a more "live and let live" libertarian ethos, the Romney/Ryan ticket would win in a landslide. Sadly, so many moderates and independents are tired of chafing under the jackboot of religionist diktat.

David H. Hersman • 11 years ago

Why call us anti-something? Why not acknowledge our right to support a biblical concept of love, marriage, family, and sexuality. Every so called "gay" is actually the product of some kind of a male-female union. This alone gives major validity to the biblical concept of family. If everybody took the gay agenda too seriously "gay" would die out in one generation.

Patricia B Hawes • 11 years ago

Thanks you,David!

Terry • 11 years ago

Support your own marriage and family and keep out of mine. I don't work to try to outlaw your family or marriage, so quit working to outlaw mine. Mind your own business.

Brian M • 11 years ago

One man with one woman for life is the only real marriage. ANYTHING else is not.

BBinVT • 11 years ago

Just wondering, how does a gay "marriage" create a family for anyone else "keep out of" to begin with?

DavidN • 11 years ago

well it's called two people dedicating to their lives to each other. Just like with a straight, marriage, BB

Brian M • 11 years ago

You can do all the "dedicating" you want. It still isn't genuine marriage. It's still a perversion.

DavidN • 11 years ago

It is certainly your right to believe that. However, it is, in many places abroad and in a few places here in America, indeed, marriage - at least in a legal sense - which is all that matters to me.

Brian M • 11 years ago

"......at least in a legal sense - which is all that matters to me."

You don't want marriage, you want government sanction and societal validation for your sin.

DavidN • 11 years ago

I have no desire nor need for societal validation. I only have desire for legal recognition as being married under the law. I don't even care if it is called "marriage" - as long as it has the exact same legal rights and responsibilities.

DavidN • 11 years ago

How would taking the "gay agenda" seriously result in everyone dying out in one generation? What do you think the "gay agenda" is?

I can tell you what my gay agenda is: "Work to ensure that sexuality is not a basis upon which to discriminate nor to deny equal access under the law."

That's it. No desire to destroy heterosexual marriage. No desire to destroy the family. No desire to destroy America or society (I can't even imagine what the point of that would be), no desire to "indoctrinate" children (don't need to - plenty of gay people being produced without any indoctrination as history clearly shows - besides you can't "indoctrinate" someone into being sexually attracted to a certain gender - if that were true - there wouldn't be any gay people). Nothing nefarious planned.

I fully support heterosexual marriage. I fully support the family. I fully support straight people gettin hitched all they want to and having as many dadgum babies as they care to. I think marriage, family and babies are just grand. Besides, as you pointed out, if those hetros aren't getting married and poppin out the little ones, we'll run out of gay people pretty quick!

While I realize that being "pro traditional marriage" typically translates into being against gay marriage, the opposite is not true. One can be in favor of allowing gays to marry and also be in favor of allowing straights to marry, and in fact I'm not aware of a single gay person who is anti-hetero marriage.

Brian M • 11 years ago

"No desire to destroy heterosexual marriage. No desire to destroy the
family. No desire to destroy America or society (I can't even imagine
what the point of that would be), no desire to "indoctrinate" children......."

Be that as it may, that is exactly what you're doing. I know, I know, how does gay marriage harm traditional marriage? Answer, it demeans it. Marriage is a beautiful symbol of the love between Christ and His church. The husband symbolizes Christ, and the bride symbolizes the church. The husband is to love, protect, cherish, and give himself for her like Christ did for His bride, the church. The wife is to honor and submit to her husband as her head like Christ is the head of the church.

They also display two aspects of God's nature, strength and beauty, in a wonderful, harmonious union, to His glory. Man and woman together as one is a beautiful illustration of God.

You people don't believe in God because you can't see Him, but we see Him clearly. We are overwhelmed with the "sight' of Him. We can see His profound wisdom everywhere. We understand Him. We know Him. We've experienced His great love and mercy. We've been in His awesome presence.

If Congress started awarding Medals of Honor to just any soldier for just any ol' reason, that would not PHYSICALLY take MOHs away from the ones who actually earned them, but it would, in a very real sense, rob them of the very special honor that the medal once represented, by cheapening it.

Likewise, a counterfeiter doesn't actually steal money from people, they steal it's value by flooding the market with fakes.

My marriage is beautiful and holy and typifies physically something spiritual that is even more beautiful and holy. I don't want it cheapened by bad counterfeits.
