SoFi's name is "Social Finance," not, like, "Captive Hedge Fund Securitization Finance." Lending Club is a "club." You can witness ontogeny recapitulating phylogeny. A social club for regular people to lend money to other regular people becomes a securitization platform with its own in-house hedge fund while you watch. The whole history of modern finance recurs, sped up, right before your eyes. It is kind of beautiful."

Re: Schwab’s roboadvisor assets increase 37% in 3rd quarter

Thanks for catching that, Vered. Again, you did another great job deconstructing the whole process of productizing services.

We actually run a newsletter-in-a-box service: http://www.newslettergrowth...

I was doing a lot of this business as a freelancer -- ad hoc. Financial firms would hire me to create, manage, and grow their newsletters and your podcast helped inspire me getting out of the whole freelancing thing and find a way to scale this whole thing.

Re: App of the Week: Wall Street Survivor

I could be wrong, but I believe it's just a web app.

Re: The OurCrowd Equity Crowdfunding Report [Infographic]

That's a really good idea, Yaron. We've debated publishing that -- how useful do you think an unrealized return on an illiquid investment is? Meaning, the vast majority of our investments have gone on to raise more money at higher valuations, but without an exit, is that a really meaningful to investors?

We actually have had an exit: ReWalk (RWLK) went public September 2014. This was the first IPO of a crowdfunded company and has a market cap over $200M right now.

Re: Why your website’s design may matter more than you think

Thanks for the comment, Dan. The idea is from a book by Donald Norman entitled Emotional Design: Why We Love (or Hate) Everyday Things.

Norman suggests that there are 3 levels of design: the “visceral” level (feelings about) how things look, feel, smell, etc.) Viscerally well-designed
products tend to evoke positive emotions in the consumers at the subconcious level.

Next, the “behavioral” level (when users react to use of a product). Product performance is important, and thus designers must ensure that the product is easy to use and that the functionality of the product is easy to comprehend. Norman suggests that good behavioral design must be a fundamental part of the design process from the beginning.

Third, the “reflective” level is the level at which the product has meaning for consumers; it accounts for how consumers maintain an innate sense of identity through the consumption of the product over time. Marketing plays a large role in incorporating the reflective design elements in a product.

Re: Join us (online) to learn about the top investment trends to watch in 2015

Shaping up to be a fun and informative event -- looking forward

Re: Crowdfunding site pairs entrepreneurs and investors

great article, Chanie. I think it must be hard for large organizations to tune in to the vibe happening at a micro-community level.

It's also interesting to see GE (who seems to "get it) participating in crowdfunding. Beyond Quirky, GE's also signed an agreement with my firm, OurCrowd, to use our platform for identifying early stage startup investment opportunities.

What do you think makes GE a standout Fortune 10 when it comes to innovation/crowdfunding?

Re: Startup Investing and the Crowdfunding Revolution

great write up about crowdfunding and thanks for the profile on OurCrowd

Re: Zack’s App of the Week: Basecamp

Thanks -- will check proofhub out

Re: 23 resources for financial advisors to generate leads

Apply

Re: Why I wouldn’t want to be a bank in this market

Great response, Synthesis. I've addressed the investment case in a variety of other posts.
