Kevin Love and Kevin Durant both make this sort of dream much closer to reality than Van Horn ever did, but actually being able to put together a team like that is something like a mythological creature... Like a Centaur or a Griffin (not Blake). You basically HAVE to draft every guy in the league that fits that mold or your team won't be strong enough to win 5 categories consistently.

But who doesn't love the tall 6-footers who make threes and free throws and rebound like the big men they should have tried to be. See also: The Old Rashard Lewis, Kevin Garnett (who never found the range), Andrea Bargnani (who gets injured too much), etc...

Re: Day 160: Legends, winning, greatness, and legacies

Erik also forgot to mention the SI "mock draft" experts' league that turned into a real league. He is currently 2nd in that one while I have managed to turn a draft that I didn't know was happening into 6th place (right now). Not to throw Patrick under the bus, but while I didn't realize the draft was taking place offline, he must have forgotten we were playing out the league, since he is currently sitting in last there. It is an experts league, though, with guys like Eric Mack (Sports Illustrated), Jason Hahn (Dime Magazine, I believe), Dennis Velasco (formerly of DroppingDimes, now at the Basketball Jones), and Brian Flood (Rotoworld Football writer), so tough competition that only the likes of Erik can keep up with.

Re: Day 160: Legends, winning, greatness, and legacies

At least in that league I have the excuse of having drafted Danny Granger with my 3rd round pick and Amare Stoudemire in the 7th the day before they both announced they'd be missing the beginning (and as it turns out nearly the entire) season. (I also had the 11th pick out of 12 teams, and my second round pick was Pau Gasol, so I think it just wasn't meant to be this year) I kept waiting for them to come back and they just never did... I tried to make up all the games behind I was in Games Played, but trying to replace a 3rd and 7th round pick with guys off the waiver wire was tough since for most of the season I couldn't actually just _drop_ them...

I did win my work league, so I will get a 1st Place Yahoo trophy for that one, and I am happy about finished 5th in our Keeper league despite having Andrew Bynum as a Keeper and taking Derrick Rose in the 5th round. This was just the Year of Guys Who Don't Play for me.

Re: Day 157: Corussell Westbrewer

I like Redick's match-up better, but the way he's shooting right now, I think you have to go with Korver.

Re: Day 157: Corussell Westbrewer

I know it's too late since the Bulls/Magic game already started, but I probably would have said Mo. If you have a spot with a guy that you're not really going to hold on to, then it makes some sense. Just make sure that no one else is going to pick up the guy you're dropping, and that you won't want to use him if someone on your team gets injured (I'll have to let you assess the risk factors on your team).

Re: Day 145: So, I’ve Got Good News and Bad News

If you can get someone to help your FT%, then I'd say go with Small Ball. Monroe, Jefferson, and Faried are going to hurt you there without Gasol's somewhat decent FT%. Parker, Lillard, Nash, etc. should help, so it might depend on how good his FT% is, but if Garnett and Vucevic are his only bigs, then his small ball categories much be pretty good too...

Re: Day 145: So, I’ve Got Good News and Bad News

Yeah, I'd take either of those guys at this point... doesn't sound good for Gay.

Re: Day 145: So, I’ve Got Good News and Bad News

If you really want to win both, then I think LeBron, Dirk, and Patterson is the way to go. He might shoot 60% or he might shoot 30%. What are the numbers you're trying to hang on to? If it's high for the FG%, then Mo could lose it for you if he takes 15 shots and makes only 5 of them.

Re: Day 145: So, I’ve Got Good News and Bad News

LeBron is the only guy I'd trust to play if you can't afford to hurt either category. Most of those guys are awful FG shooters. Maybe Dirk and Patrick Patterson since Patterson is actually kind of okay at FTs and doesn't take many and his FG% is good.

Re: Day 145: So, I’ve Got Good News and Bad News

Too bad for that Curry injury, because his through the legs around the back move was real slick until he got grabbed and thrown to the floor (okay, I'm exaggerating a bit there).
