We are not going Trick or Treating (for obvious reasons) so a couple of friends rented out the local theater for The Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween. If you haven't been to the movies since this all started, it's actually a really cheap option that is relatively safe and really awesome. We've done it about four times now and the options range from new releases to old classics which is cool to see if you missed any when you were young (and to take your kids to see them). We haven't felt comfortable with getting snacks yet, but I might this time if I'm feeling extra saucy.

I decided I need to finally watch all the horror I've been hoarding on my Plex these last few years. I'm watching one horror movie a night in October. I created a playlist of all my horror movies and I also included TV movie specials which really adds a lot of interesting and quirky stuff to the marathon.

I'm sure it has to do with lower income areas still frequenting cheaper places. All of the "last one of its kind" businesses I see are always in those areas.

I lived in Medina, OH and if I'm remembering correctly, we were the first city to get a Super Kmart. I remember Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss America came to visit the first year it opened. I spent so much of my high school years there.

I cannot be sure of this but I feel like every October I watched The Hobbit cartoon. I feel like they played it ever year but I can't verify that. So I always include it in my Halloween viewing rituals every year.

When I was in college I used to drive by a Best Buy on my way in and every day after school I would stop by and purchase a Jackie Chan VHS for $5-$8. This is one of my favorite ones if I remember correctly. It's so silly and it has such an atmosphere that is very nostalgic for me. It's great they are putting these on Criterion channel.

There's a really great one architecture-wise in Sanford. It's called Seminole Town Center I think?

The only bummer about all these malls is the stores all pretty much suck these days.

I love Fashion Square - still has that awesome logo of the modern woman (or at least it did last year). When you go there you can really picture a Tiffany concert happening there!

I had to get rid of all my He-Man toys when a guy game to our church and told all the parents it was satanic because he called himself the savior of the universe and that's supposed to Jesus.

Luckily, my parents eventually saw all of that for what it was (bullshit) and let me watch stuff again.

This is really interesting...

I have been studying the Satanic Panic of the 80s for awhile now and it makes me so skeptical of any kind of "satanic" murders. It's a really interesting story.

But even having child porn is hurting those kids in the pictures/films - and it's feeding the child porn "industry" to keep making more.

I agree that thought crime is a really dicey business, but I don't think it's inappropriate that we take a hard stance on possessing child porn. Our entire justice system built on punishment and not rehabilitation is a huge problem so I'm not arguing for monster-sized sentences but I am arguing for major rehabilitation requirements.
